Another great time with the AMERICAN FLY FISHING TRADE ASSOCIATION (AFFTA) in New Orleans last week for their annual Confluence Summit. I had the pleasure of facilitating another session with AFFTA members to update the organization's federal policy agenda. And we heard from some amazing speakers, including our friends at TrackFly who threw out some incredibly helpful industry data. Looking forward to working with Lucas Bissett and the rest of the AFFTA team to continue advocating for the fly-fishing industry in Washington, DC!

  • This month, a new Maryland law went into effect that High Street, our clients, and their coalition worked on during the 2024 MD General Assembly Legislative Session. The Clean Water Justice Act restores protections for waters and wetlands previously covered by the Federal Clean Water Act that were endangered by the Sackett vs EPA Supreme Court decision. Thanks to the legislative sponsors, House and Senate leadership and governor’s administration for recognizing the importance of this crucial protection and working hard for the people of Maryland. Pictured: May 9, 2024, Jarryd Hawkins and Rosa Hance of High Street Strategies proudly attended a bill signing for the Clean Water Justice Act alongside their clients Waterkeepers Chesapeake, legislative sponsors Delegate (now Senator) Sara Love, Senator Malcolm Augustine, Senate President Bill Ferguson, Speaker of the House of Delegates Adrienne Jones and Gov. Wes Moore.

?? Advocating & Exploring in D.C.! Just got back from Washington, D.C., where I had the chance to advocate alongside Ben MacAskill on key issues like R&D expensing and the American Privacy Rights Act (APRA). It was an incredible experience to engage with policymakers and highlight the needs of our values-driven business. On the side, I logged more miles exploring the city’s sights than I can count—D.C.’s history and monuments didn’t disappoint! #TechPolicy #Innovation #Advocacy #FirstTimeInDC

CEO POW | Outdoor & Climate

Thank you to our athletes, scientists, brands, and the Outdoor State for this year's Protect Our Winters Leadership Summit in Bozeman, Montana! Our goals were to build the movement, share new perspectives, and Stoke the Vote going into climate-critical elections this fall. We kicked off with inspiration to act from our Founder Jeremy Jones and the OG in climate movement building Bill McKibben. We heard from indigenous voices, the kids who sued Montana for a clean environment and WON, and we watched the presidential debate live with political commentary from Sara Chieffo, James M. Delaplane, Jr., Matt Mullin, and Kjersten Forseth. At POW, it's expected that we get out for trail runs, bike rides, coffee walks, and healthy meals. What's less expected is the incredible films, photos, and other art from creators like MING POON, Sofía Jaramillo, Emily Tidwell and more. Not content to sit for long, we also wrote letters and knocked on doors for votes. It is hard work to run such a comprehensive event. I want to give a heartfelt shout-out to the indefatigable and freakishly creative POW staff. This wonderful group of humans makes it seem easy (it's not) and feel joyful (it is) to navigate the highs and lows of outdoor x climate work. We are approaching 50 days to the election. It's race day- let's go. ?? Gretchen Powers
