When CHOICE Academy needed a P.E. teacher, Cherie Clymer didn’t hesitate—even though it wasn’t her subject area. She stepped in. She showed up. She created a space where students felt safe, supported and seen. With help from UPower, Cherie turned her class into more than just fitness. It became a place for connection, confidence and healing. That’s why she was chosen for UPower’s Heart of Service Award. Since 2015, UPower has invested more than $550,000 in Highline. They’ve brought trauma-informed fitness to students across our district—including 200+ classes last year and 150+ more planned this year. Their partnership reaches CHOICE Academy, Tyee, Glacier, Innovation Heights, Big Picture, Para los Ni?os and students in treatment at Sea Mar’s Renacer Program. Cherie says it best:? ?? “Upower coaches change the dynamic from one adult managing 30 students to three adults listening, caring and helping. That ratio change is invaluable.”? Congratulations, Cherie. Your heart and leadership make a lasting impact. ?? #HighlineProud #WeAreHighline #HighlinePublicSchools?

At our recent school board meeting, we recognized the Youth Experiential Training Institute (Y.E.T.I.) for expanding outdoor access for Highline students. Through after-school Outdoor Clubs in nine secondary schools, students experience hiking, climbing, kayaking, and more—supported by Y.E.T.I. with gear, transportation, food, and instruction. This partnership makes the outdoors accessible to all, helping students grow their leadership, confidence, and connection to nature. We're proud to partner with Y.E.T.I. to support equity and real-world learning beyond the classroom. #WeAreHighline #HighlineProud #HighlineJoy #HighlinePublicSchools?

???? John Taitano graduated from our Tyee High School in 2003. Now, he’s helping build the new campus — literally. John is a union laborer, who drives a forklift and manages logistics for Absher Construction Company. He’s worked on many job sites, but this one is personal. ?? “This is home for me,” he says. “It’s good to show my kids and my nephews and nieces that I am part of this. September is right around the corner, and it’s going to be a privilege for the incoming students to have this new Tyee High School." ?? Thanks to a community workforce agreement, John qualified as a priority hire — and he's not alone. So far, more than $4 million of the $15 million in wages to date have gone to construction workers who live in priority hire ZIP codes, including in the City of SeaTac, the Highline area and King County, WA. ????♀?????♀? And while construction remains a male-dominated field, two women on the job are helping lead the way. Follow the link to learn about Melinda Ezell, who operates heavy equipment for Pivetta Brothers Construction, and Curtistine Billups, a pipefitter with Betchart Mechanical, who followed her childhood dream of building big things. ?? Check out photos of some of the crew and the construction progress — and read more about John’s journey from graduate to builder on our website: ?? https://lnkd.in/ggF4c2kd #HighlineBuilds #KeepingOurPromise #WomenInConstruction Vanir INTEGRUS

We’re #HighlineProud of our bilingual paraeducators and their commitment to supporting multilingual students. This month, paraeducators gathered at PSSC for the third session of the Bilingual Para Training series. They worked with three teams: ?? Social Emotional-Behavior Team: Strategies for supporting trauma-impacted students and understanding behavior in classrooms and small groups. ?? College & Career Readiness Team: Updates on financial aid, addressing barriers like language access, and clearing up common misconceptions about future readiness. ?? Language Learning Department: Instructional strategies for language development—like working with complex texts, teaching vocabulary in context, and advocacy tips for multilingual learners. Paraeducators left with new tools, including Enhancement Kits, and ready-to-use strategies. One takeaway: “Now I understand my role better and can advocate for what I need.” Final session happens May 9—we’re excited to continue this important work! #WeAreHighline #HPSTeachLead #HighlinePublicSchools
