关于我们
Located 20 miles north of Pittsburgh, PA, Highlands School District comprises the municipalities of Fawn Township, Harrison Township, Brackenridge Borough and Tarentum Borough. The current enrollment at Highlands is approximately 2,400 students. We have a professional staff of about 225 educators and administrators, and a support staff of about 100, including secretaries, aides, food service, custodians/maintenance, security personnel. Highlands firmly believes that our children's futures begin with a strong foundation, built piece by piece at home, in the community, and in our schools. We set goals each year to improve upon programs, educational services and facilities that will help our students build a solid foundation and establish lifelong skills that they can use to continue to grow. Our students are challenged with innovative curriculum and motivating teachers. We expect all of our students to be Respectful, Accountable, Motivated and Safe (RAMS) individuals, and only accept behaviors and attitudes reflecting those qualities in the classroom, on the playground, during free time, and while participating in extracurricular activities and athletics.

Highlands alumni are doing amazing things! Shout out to Class of 2019 graduate Madalyn Heinle, who is serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic! https://lnkd.in/eiSrK4vD
I recently had the amazing opportunity to serve as a translator for a medical mission here in Monte Cristi! The mission was a collaboration between Timmy Global Health and Bananos Ecológicos de la Línea Noroeste (BANELINO). Together we served 435 patients in 5 days in 5 different communities throughout Monte Cristi. It was an amazing experience, and a special part of my Peace Corps service that I will cherish forever. Special thank you to Onice Matos for coordinating and leading our group through a successful mission! Shoutout to all the volunteers from Timmy Global Health & BANELINO who worked so hard throughout the week!

As part of the district's focus on Career & Workforce Readiness for grades K-8, Highlands Elementary 4th graders had the unique opportunity to experience Junior Achievement of Western PA's BizTown, which combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town where they could operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks and even vote for mayor. Some of our high school students and parent volunteers assisted the teachers by helping the students explore all the interactive features of BizTown, which is located in Abele Business Park in South Fayette. Through this experience, the students were able to connect the dots between what they learned through 12 prior lessons in school and the real world. The primary goal of the JA BizTown learning experience is to have students discuss the roles they play as citizens, workers and consumers in their community and relate those roles to the free enterprise system. ATI has provided funding for Junior Achievement with the hope of bringing more JA programming into our schools. In addition to BizTown, another program Highlands will pilot is JA Day for 7th graders on Feb. 11. Thank you to Faith Foster, the district's Career & Workforce Readiness Facilitator, for arranging these experiences for our students and to Superintendent Monique Mawhinney for spearheading CRW in our district. #BizTown #CareerandWorkforceReadiness #ReFramingtheFuture #WeAreHighlands

Twelve CHS Spanish IV students in Laura Fleischer Proa?o's class participated in the Student Sustainability Design Challenge Kick-Off at Pittsburgh’s Energy Innovation Center. Alongside exploring ways to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), the students practiced soft skills like introductions, identified strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities within their community, interviewed professionals about their career paths, and discovered the sustainability efforts of various companies. Over the next several months, the students will collaborate with a company to propose a local project that supports the UNSDGs. They are part of a global movement of more than 13 million students working toward these goals, with Highlands being one of 16 Pittsburgh-area schools and more than 200 students participating in the challenge. Student participants include William Baillie, Salvatore Barbarino, Lucas Bernstein, Gabrielle Collins, Bradley Cowfer, Madison Haines, Cruz Kelly, Andy Luu, Samantha Markey, Jacob Millen, Emma Murrell and Abigail Vulgris. Thank you to the Consortium for Public Education for organizing this exciting opportunity for our students! #ReFramingtheFuture #WeAreHighlands #sustainability

Thanks to a 2-year collaborative effort among the Highlands Administration, School Board and Physical Education Department, students are “breaking a sweat” in a newly renovated Fitness Center at Highlands High School! Highlands Student Service Director Dr. Amber Dean?was instrumental in helping the district secure a SEEKS Grant through the Allegheny Intermediate Unit to fund the Fitness Center renovation. “A big thank you to Highlands Athletic Director?Katie Jo Stobert, High School Principal?Mike Toole, and the Highlands Administration and School Board for all their support and assistance in making this a reality for our students,” said High School phys ed teacher Luke Pollick. With the improved space and equipment now in place, the High School was able to incorporate a Personal Fitness class into the curriculum and offer an After-School Lifting and Workout program for all interested students. The program is held Monday-Thursday from 2:30-3:30pm. In addition, the Athletic Department created a schedule so that all Highlands athletic teams will be able to utilize the Fitness Center. “The use of the Fitness Center not only helps student athletes improve, but it also builds team unity throughout the year,” said Pollick. #ReFramingtheFuture #physicalandmentalhealth #WeAreHighlands
