Members of the Highland Associates design team attended The University of Maryland Medical System groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on the new UM Shore Regional Medical Center in Easton, MD. The $550 million project will replace the existing UM Shore Medical Center at Easton, will house 147 beds, and is expected to open in summer 2028. Due to a state-wide initiative, heating, cooling, and domestic water heating will be provided with zero direct emissions from fossil fuels. To achieve this goal, geothermal energy will be provided by a Central Utility Plant (CUP) containing centralized geothermal water-to-water system of heat pumps and heat exchangers. Congratulations to the entire team on this amazing project!
