The tech layoff wave has been tough... Recently, companies like Hewlett-Packard and Autodesk have made headlines for slashing workforces in response to tightening economic conditions. These are not isolated events; companies are adapting to shifting market demands and adjusting their budgets. Listen, most of us have been there! If you've recently been affected, here's how to navigate this challenging time: Acknowledge your feelings: We really want to express how normal it is to feel upset, frustrated, or uncertain! Truly take the time you need to process. The more desperate or scared you feel the more it will come across in your communication! Use it as an opportunity: This can be a great time to explore new roles, companies, or even industries you might not have considered before. You can also use this as a way to learn a new skill – maybe something you’ve been wanting to learn but haven’t had the chance to. Update your resume & LinkedIn: This one seems like a no brainer, but really make sure your experience and skills are front and center. Tailor them to highlight your impact, especially if you're looking to switch sectors. This is a great way to start sharing your narrative in a passive way! Leverage your network: There’s never been a better time to connect with others! Reach out to peers, mentors, former colleagues and new people who are working at the companies you want to work for. Let them know you’re in the market and be open to conversations, even casual ones, about new opportunities. Embrace resilience: It’s tough, but many people have come out the other side stronger and found even better opportunities after a layoff. Your next role might be just around the corner! Journal, walk, do whatever you can to embrace this new chapter. Layoffs are a harsh reminder that things can change quickly. But remember, your experience and skills are valuable, and the right opportunity will come. Bittersweet indeed. Our beloved Head of Operations, Alex Nelson, is leaving the company. We couldn’t let Alex Nelson’s last day pass without highlighting just how much she’s done for HigherPeople! Alex helped build this company from the ground up. She put together every process we have, from recruiting and onboarding to payroll, taxes, and everything in between. She created our company handbook, organized multiple offsite retreats, managed all employee and client transitions, and helped grow our team of eight powerhouses...all while being an incredible manager, problem solver, and overall force of nature. Alex has boundless patience and is always solution-oriented. She's the most fun and the most real person. Trust us, we could go on and on! While we’ll miss her more than we can articulate, we are so proud of her for taking this time to care for herself and her family. Join us in thanking Alex for everything she’s built and reminding her (loudly) just how amazing she is! ?? We look forward to sharing more about the incredible person we found in her stead, stay tuned!
I have some bittersweet news to share today. Today is Alex Nelson’s last day at HigherPeople ?? ??. Alex has been the backbone of this company since Day 1. As our first full-time hire (even before me!), she sourced, recruited, and built literally every process and operational playbook from the ground up. Her impact is woven everywhere in this organization. She’s stepping away to focus on her family and take some well-deserved time to rest. While it’s incredibly hard to see her go, I couldn’t be prouder of her for prioritizing herself and her loved ones. The good news? We have an amazing person who is stepping into her role - stay tuned for more details on Monday! In the meantime, let’s give Alex the sendoff she deserves. Please join me in thanking her for everything she’s built, making her slightly uncomfortable by showering her with appreciation, and saying goodbye (for now… because who knows, maybeeee she’ll come back one day ??). Alex Nelson, I’m beyond grateful for you. Love you lots. ??????

A few talent and leadership hills we’ll gladly die on… ??? Hiring for “culture fit” is outdated. We hire for culture add and personality fit – diverse perspectives drive better results. ??? Ghosting candidates is never okay!? A simple update (even if it’s a "no") goes a long way in showing respect. ??? Great talent doesn’t wait. If your hiring process drags on and on, you’re losing top candidates to companies that move faster. ??? Leadership isn’t about titles. The best leaders empower, listen, and invest in their people, regardless of their position. ??? Parenthood is a leadership superpower. Adaptability, multitasking, and resilience? Sounds like executive skills to us. Did we tell you about our upcoming event? Join us on March 27th at 12P PT! RSVP here: https://lnkd.in/gm7ccuiH ? ??? Retention over replacement. You can’t out-recruit a broken company culture. Hiring is more expensive than keeping great employees, so investing in retention is your best fiscal move! What’s a hiring, talent, or leadership hill you’d die on? Drop yours below! #Recruiting #Talent #Leadership #HiringTruths #hillstodieon
