High's iconic colors trace back to the company's roots, inspired by High Welding Company's first truck – a 1929 red, yellow, and black REO Speedwagon. In 1954, specific shades of red and yellow were chosen, and these colors continue to represent High's enduring brand identity today. High Steel Structures is supplying over 4,500 tons of structural steel to PennDOT’s I-95 Reconstruction, Section BS2 project in Philadelphia.??These recent photos, courtesy of GC James J. Anderson, show the site assembly of an integral bent cap on I-95 southbound.?? Bridge designers use bent caps in locations where a typical pier would interfere with a roadway or other feature below the bridge.?In this instance, a traditional pier would have landed in the roadway below. The bent cap solves this challenge by spanning the roadway to support the structure above. High Steel’s engineering department detailed this project in-house. While detailing the longitudinal steel girders that pass through the prestressed concrete bent cap, careful consideration was given to the incorporation of girder and bent cap deflections during construction phasing.?This was critical to ensure alignment of the post tensioning and reinforcing passing through the girders and also to ensure that the girders deflect to the correct design elevation at the end of construction. #bridgeengineering #steelbridges #steelfabrication #highsteel

On Thursday February 20th, High Steel Structures Lancaster hosted students from Milton Hershey School for an interactive tour. The students were given a tour of the facility, then they visited the High Steel University lab, where they got a chance to weld a souvenir High logo "h" using the FCAW process and weld a mock-up splice using the SAW twin wire process. Afterwards, the students were treated to pizza and discussions on career opportunities at High Steel Structures and the welding industry.
