    Very exciting news to start the year! David Segal is joining Highbeam as President to drive sales and marketing (GTM). You might know David as the founder of DAVIDsTEA, which he scaled from zero to over $200M in sales. For many years my favorite afternoon beverage was a green tea at the flatiron DAVID's TEA location so it feels extra special?to welcome him on the Highbeam journey. David started off as a Highbeam customer, and believed in the product, team and vision enough to first be an investor, then an advisor, and now go all in as an operator to help us scale. Why this matters (in three bullets as a nod to my consulting roots): ? Highbeam optimized over $600M of cash flows on behalf of our clients in Q4 - more than all of 2023 put together ?     We love to see when 2 of our customers collaborate.. Mickey Ashmore at Sabah has one of the coolest footwear brands. And Charlotte Cruze at Alice Mushrooms makes amazing chocolate we all love at Highbeam (trust me, it really helps us focus). After meeting through Highbeam, Sabah started selling Alice Mushrooms in their store, and it’s been a huge hit. The store is always sold out ?? At Highbeam, we’re building a community where founders can connect and grow together.

    Shopify alumni prove that you don’t have to be in Silicon Valley to start a tech mafia. Shopify is known for encouraging entrepreneurship (Tobias and Harley built a billion-dollar business empowering other business owners, after all) – the Shopify Mafia includes 30+ e-commerce and tech founders. Many are part of the Canadian startup ecosystem. Some are building products for Shopify’s own ecosystem. And several have started multiple ventures. ?? Larry Gadea founded integrated workplace solution Envoy, connecting people, spaces, and data in one platform for simpler office management. They're currently hiring on Paraform! Taylor Sicard co-founded WIN Brands Group, a consumer ‘house of brands’ including candle company Homesick and weighted blanket brand Gravity. He also founded Uptime, to give Shopify store owners proactive alerts about store issues. Steven Michael Thomas, Bruno Roldan del Bosque, and Nicole M. started DTC chili crisp brand Super Magic Taste during a hack day at Shopify. When they decided to go all-in on the brand, they joked about going from SaaS to sauce. Mike Taylor and Michael Perry were already co-founders before joining Shopify via acquisition. After 4 years as Shopifolks, they left to start Maple to make household management easier for busy families. Shopify colleagues Anand Dhillon, Karn Saroya, Natalie Eva Gray, and Ben Aneesh co-founded Re, the world’s first blockchain-powered reinsurer, to build a decentralized global reinsurance market. They previously founded property insurance company Cover. Atlee Clark, Shopify’s VP of Commercial Initiatives, shows you don’t have to leave Shopify to join the Mafia. Gautam Gupta co-founded Highbeam, empowering e-commerce brands to make smarter financial decisions by giving them real-time cashflow insights, a flexible credit line, and no-fee banking services.
