We are thrilled to share that the High Point University Teresa Caine School of Nursing recently featured the exceptional Dr. Bonnie (Hartley) Faust, PhD, MS, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE as part of our Nursing Leadership Series. Dr. Faust presented her fascinating research on the “Phenomenological Study of the Lived Experiences of Sponsorship from Female Chief Nursing Officer to Hospital Chief Executive Officer” to our nursing students.
????Dr. Faust’s impressive leadership journey includes her role as Chief Nursing Officer at High Point Regional Health, where she led several key initiatives, including:
- Driving a complete turnaround in Surgical Services, increasing volume and surgeon satisfaction.
- Improving patient flow and reducing ED hold hours with the creation of a 12-bed observation unit.
- Achieving a RN turnover rate of less than 2%.
- Cutting premium labor costs by eliminating 85% of travel RN contracts in just 9 months.

Her extensive experience in hospital operations, healthcare leadership, and nursing research make her an invaluable contributor to the academic preparation of future leaders.
Reflecting on the role of nurses in leadership, Dr. Faust shared:
"Now, more than ever, nurses are needed at the pinnacle of leadership in healthcare. For those joining our ranks, it is imperative that we identify the barriers and opportunities for successful ascension. In this way, we not only lay a path for future nurse leaders, but we reach back in courage to carry them forward with us."????????
A proud adjunct faculty member at HPU’s Doctor of Medical Science/Master of Healthcare Administration programs and an invited member of the Teresa Caine School of Nursing's Professional Advisory Committee, we are honored to have Dr. Faust as part of our community. The Nursing Leadership cours is taught by Assistant Professor Dr. Lorrie R. Davis-Dick, DNP, PMH-BC. Special thanks to Dr. Racquel Ingram, Founding Dean of the School of Nursing, for empowering guest lecturers like Dr. Faust to inspire the next generation of nursing professionals!
