At High Point Healthcare Real Estate, one of our missions is to empower underserved communities with transformative healthcare solutions. Today, we're thrilled to showcase one of our partners, the Ttáwaxt Birth Justice Center – a groundbreaking initiative designed to address critical gaps in maternal and infant health services for rural and underserved communities. Led by Executive Director/Co-Founder Jessica Whitehawk and run by Indigenous women, the Ttáwaxt Birth Justice Center, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving families on and near the lands of The Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation. They offer pre and postnatal care, reproductive healthcare, breastfeeding support, childbirth education, cultural classes, plant medicine, and other support for families. With the closure of maternity units in many local rural hospitals, this organization has chosen to step into this gap by developing a birthing center within Yakima Nation lands. This 12,000 square foot new facility includes clinic space, four birthing suites, an apothecary for preparing plant based Indigenous medicines, administration space, and a gathering and meeting place for family members. The intimate scale of the buildings allows natural light and views of nature and surrounds an outdoor gathering space that is reminiscent of a growth spiral that is often found in the natural world. What makes the Ttáwaxt Birth Justice Center unique? ●???????Culturally Inclusive Care: Incorporating traditional medicines and ceremonies to honor the diverse backgrounds of the families they serve. Listening to the ever-changing needs of the community and designing programs and services accordingly. ●???????Comprehensive Services: Creating a continuum of care that addresses the whole health of mothers and their babies. ●???????Access to Care: Providing access to exceptional care in a rural maternity desert. ●???????Community Empowerment: Partnering with local healthcare providers, midwives, and doulas to create sustainable solutions tailored to the community's needs. ●???????State-of-the-Art Facilities: Designed with comfort, accessibility, and innovation in mind, redefining how healthcare infrastructure serves rural populations. High Point is serving as the development partner as this project grows from early concept to completion, thanks to the support of TGB Architects.
