Junior Achievement of South Central Pennsylvania aims to improve student circumstances by giving them a belief in themselves and a sense of purpose. To achieve this, Junior Achievement partners with schools and community members to inspire students, helping them to take an active role in preparing for their futures by exploring careers, developing strong employability skills, and setting goals. Junior Achievement programs help students see the relevance of what they are learning in the classroom and its application to the real world, preparing them to enter the workforce, make informed financial decisions, and contribute to the success of their local economy. Lancaster County Therapeutic Riding aims to enhance the lives of individuals with special needs and other at-risk populations through equine-assisted activities. Using carefully trained horses, Lancaster County Therapeutic Riding delivers equine-assisted therapeutic services to more than 250 people with special needs, local seniors, frontline workers, and first responders every year. When providing these services, the organization operates out of a 64-year-old barn with much of its original infrastructure still intact. After years of operation, the electrical system began to pose danger to volunteers, staff, horses, and program participants. Water Street Mission provides marginalized members of the community and those experiencing homelessness and poverty with the tools they need to build a hope-filled future. Through emergency shelters, residential programs, health services, and programming for local middle and high school students, Water Street Mission offers an individualized approach to care for each person who enters the facility. More than 81,000 children in Pennsylvania have a parent incarcerated in a state prison. SWAN (Scaling Walls a Note at a Time) exists to be dedicated advocates for children affected by parental incarceration and the resulting trauma by providing life-changing intervention through free music lessons, ensemble training, performance opportunities, and mentoring from local music teachers. Most recently, SWAN launched a pilot program called “Rising Stars.” This extended after-school session began in January 2024 and runs once weekly at Burrowes Elementary School. The program serves children who have experienced parental incarceration and the resulting trauma. Additionally, SWAN hosted a full-day, 5-week summer session. Good Neighbors provides critical home repairs for low-income families at no cost, aiming to make homes safer and healthier. High Foundation was honored to partner with Good Neighbors to repair homes in Southern Lancaster County. “We are so grateful that the High Foundation agreed to partner with us to help families in need of critical home repairs,” the organization shared. “Their support has helped us develop even more partnerships with other organizations who hold the High Foundation in high regard. We are excited to continue our work in Solanco and help even more families this year.” Since our initial investment, Good Neighbors has repaired over 25 Southern Lancaster County homes. Tec Centro provides bilingual education and skills training in Lancaster, equipping those who are unemployed, under-employed, and living in poverty. With the training made available at Tec Centro, folks gain self-sufficiency and receive workforce training that prepares them to enter a field of their choosing. Tec Centro Workforce Network, also known as “The Network,” is a coalition of community advocates, public officials, philanthropic leaders, and business professionals. The collective goal is to establish community-based bilingual workforce centers to serve populations that are disproportionately disadvantaged. The Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development recently celebrated the completion of a $13 million capital campaign to expand and renovate its facility in East Hempfield township. New and improved treatment spaces include a state-of-the-art physical therapy gym and private treatment rooms designed to offer more specialized therapy options for feeding, hearing and vision, pelvic floor therapy, and more. The new High Foundation Library serves as a showcase to founder Edna Schreiber and her work to ensure children with special needs receive the care they need, right here in Lancaster. High Foundation is proud to partner with Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development as they provide family-centered education and therapy programs for infants, children, and adolescents with disabilities, developmental delays, and acquired injuries.
