EPA estimates that up to 9 million homes are served through legacy lead pipes across the country. ? The Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI) mandates more rigorous water testing and lowers the threshold for action on lead exposure. ? $2.6 billion in new funding is available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to support lead pipe replacement projects. This funding will flow through the drinking water state revolving funds (DWSRFs). ? An additional $35 million in competitive grant funding is available for reducing lead in drinking water.
