We want to congratulate Raquel Vasquez for being recognized today as a Woman to Watch at the Birmingham Business Journal’s Women’s Summit.

We are committed to the professional development of our team members. As such, we want to congratulate our team members who are taking part in leadership programs in the coming year. Silvia Espinosa Laxson is a member of the current class of Leadership Birmingham, Raquel Vasquez is a member of the current class of Momentum Leaders (she was also named a 2024 Woman to Watch by the Birmingham Business Journal), Angelica Melendez is a member of the current class of Leadership Shelby, and Carlos Torres is a member of the City of Birmingham's Academy of Civic Engagement. We also want to recognize Maria Elena Frias who recently completed her Pete Garcia Fellowship with National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders. Along with Angelica, Maria Elena also completed the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Birmingham Citizen's Academy.

We want to congratulate our Strong Families Program Manager Angelica Melendez for representing us so well at the White House yesterday. She was invited to speak as part of the celebration to commemmorate 30 years of the Violence Against Women Act at the #VAWAanniversary! VAWA has been pivotal in advancing protections for survivors' rights and we are proud to do this life saving work.

The largest nationwide network of Korean American voters, the Korean American Grassroots Conference (KAGC) is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization dedicated to uplift the voice of our community through active civic participation. Korea Corner at Auburn University is a community partner of KAGC and together will be presenting an overview of the Korean American community, policy priorities of our community in Alabama and nationwide, ways and means to advocate for our community, and the importance of civic engagement as Korean Americans.
