With experience as a computational designer and digital fabrication specialist at Fibr GmbH, he brings industry expertise to his research.? As the Inaugural Innovation Fellow at the Department of Design Tech, AAP at Cornell University, Marirena brings a unique perspective that bridges design, fabrication, and human craft through technology. Her work focuses on developing adaptive, eco-socially sustainable systems and innovative models of cooperation with construction robots. By bridging design, fabrication, and human craft through technology, her work aims to create adaptive, eco-socially sustainable systems and ways of making. Through multi-disciplinary collaborations, she has contributed to advancements in digital manufacturing, material processing methods, new modular systems, as well as innovative models of cooperation with construction robots. Her work has earned recognition through awards, invited talks, and exhibitions at prestigious venues, including the Venice Biennale, ZAZ Bellerive Museum, Kunsthalle Zurich, and the Swiss Sustainability Forum. Marirena holds a doctorate from ETH Zurich as a fellow of the NCCR Digital Fabrication. Meet the Hi-DARS Team? Sina Mostafavi, Ph.D. ? Dr. Sina Mostafavi is an Associate Professor at Texas Tech University’s Huckabee College of Architecture, where he directs the Hi-DARS Lab (Hybrid Intelligence Design & Architectural Robotic Systems Lab). Mostafavi’s research focuses on the innovative applications of emerging materials and technologies driven by hybrid human-machine intelligence for integrated design, inclusive automation, and circular production. As the founder of the award-winning SETUParchitecture studio, he has received multiple honors, including the Architizer A+Award for the Soft Stone project. He holds a doctoral degree from TU Delft, where he served as a senior researcher and managed the Hyperbody Research Group’s robotic building lab. His projects have been exhibited at several global venues, including the Venice Architecture Biennale, Centre Pompidou Paris, and Dutch Design Week. He serves on the Board of Directors of ACADIA and the Editorial Board of the IJAC Journal. He has served as Principal Investigator for several funded projects, including those supported by industry partners such as AUDI in Germany and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). Meet the Hi-DARS Team Edgar Montejano! Edgar Montejano is a Ph.D. student in the Land-Use Planning, Management, and Design (LPMD) program at Texas Tech University. With a Master’s degree in Architecture, Edgar brings a multidisciplinary approach to his research, which focuses on design computation, hybrid production methods, and material constructs in architectural lattice structures. His work aims to optimize these systems to enhance their performance, sustainability, and resource efficiency. Edgar possesses expertise in digital design and robotic fabrication, with a specific focus on advancing the design and manufacturing of lattice structures. Demonstrating proficiency in various tools, he adeptly integrates academic research with practical experience, fostering interdisciplinary approaches within the architectural domain. As a member of the Hi-DARS Lab (Hybrid Intelligence Design & Architectural Robotic Systems), Edgar explores advanced techniques in robotic fabrication, computational design, and material integration. His projects combine reclaimed materials with 3D-printed components, leveraging tools such as 3D scanning, topology optimization, and augmented reality to address challenges in translating digital designs into functional, buildable systems. Through his research, Edgar seeks to redefine the relationship between digital design processes and physical materiality, contributing to innovative, resource-conscious architectural solutions. Meet the Hi-DARS Team? Bahar Bagheri! ? Bahar Bagheri is a computational designer, architect and researcher, specializing in computational design and robotic fabrication. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Land-Use Planning, Management, and Design (LPMD) at Texas Tech University, where she works as a Research Assistant at the Hi-DARS Lab under Dr. Sina Mostafavi. Her research focuses on multi-actor human-machine collaboration, exploring the integration of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and robotics in cobotic manufacturing systems. Bahar earned her Master’s in Architectural Technologies (Digital Architecture) and Bachelor’s in Architectural Engineering, both from the University of Tehran. Her master’s thesis applied an agent-based computational framework inspired by bone remodeling to design lattice structures. Since 2018, Bahar has actively contributed to the fields of computational design and digital fabrication. She has participated in numerous research-based design workshops, collaborated on digital fabrication projects, and authored publications on topics such as augmented reality in co-production, timber-dowel structures, and robotic toolpath optimization. Her work includes expertise in agent-based modeling, parametric design, robotics applications, and the development of Grasshopper plugins. Current Project: Bahar has been investigating collaborative human-robot construction processes, concentrating on multi-actor integration and the use of AI and computational design in building systems. Caleb Scott is a Master's candidate at Texas Tech University Huckabee College of Architecture Tech University's Huckabee College of Architecture, where he builds on his foundation from a Bachelor of Science in Architecture earned in 2023. His work focuses on architectural design, digital fabrication, and computational methods, integrating innovative technologies and sustainable practices. He has held roles at prominent firms such as Gensler and BOKA Powell, contributing to large-scale medical and housing developments in Fort Worth and high-profile projects like Universal Studios in Frisco. Caleb is a LEED Green Associate, and deeply committed to sustainable and environmentally responsible design, an ethos that informs both his academic research and professional practice. His research emphasizes parametric design and rapid prototyping, exploring adaptive, resilient architecture. His work has been featured in renowned publications such as ArchDaily, designboom, The Architect's Newspaper, and Architect Magazine, and has earned recognition in numerous design competitions. Through his innovative approach and dedication to sustainable solutions, Caleb continues to explore the boundaries of his architectural practice. Current Project: Caleb has been working on an experimental research pavilion and co-authoring a series of academic papers focused on parametric design and adaptive architectural frameworks. Meet the Hi-DARS Team ? Brodey Myers!? Brodey Myers is an artist, designer, and future architect. He will be assisting in the research and supervision under the direction of Professor Dr. Sina Mostafavi for ARCH 5354 – Advanced Architectural Technologies II. He has a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the Huckabee College of Architecture at Texas Tech University. He also has a minor in Landscape Architecture from the Department of Landscape Architecture at Texas Tech. He is obtaining a Master of Architecture at Tech, pursuing certificates in both Design, Computation, and Fabrication and Urban/Community Design.? Current Project: Brodey has been assisting as a teaching assistant in advanced architectural technology courses since Spring 2023, supporting students in mastering digital tools and fabrication techniques. Meet the Hi-DARS Team ? Cole Howell! Cole Howell, a resident Texan from Plano, joined Hi-DARS in Fall 2022. He contributed to a variety of research and teaching activities at Hi-DARS, including developing computational design systems and integrating augmented fabrication using mixed reality and robotic manufacturing. His contributions extend to notable projects such as FabriCity XR, exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2023, and the filed patent Timber Dowel Reciprocal System. Cole graduated cum laude in Spring 2024 with bachelor’s degrees in both Mathematics and Architecture.
