We’re feeling energized and inspired today! Our Deputy Director Giulietta Fiore just got back from the Museum Association of New York's 2024 Annual Conference “Giving Voice to Value” with new ideas and new connections. It was great to collaborate with the Preservation League of New York State, the Reher Center for Immigrant Culture and History, and Boscobel House and Gardens on a presentation entitled “Removing Barriers and Opening Doors: Finding Ways to Improve Accessibility & Inclusion." HHT was proud to present case studies of capital projects to improve physical accessibility at three of our partner sites, as well as a some examples of creative projects completed through our ongoing Accessibility & Innovation Initiative funded with generous support from the New York Community Trust. Thank you to the Museum Association of New York for organizing another wonderful gathering of museum professionals, and for recognizing our partner, the Conference House, as an Award of Distinction Recipient. The Conference House has been selected to receive a 2024 Award of Distinction from the Museum Association of New York for their collaborative efforts to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Ward’s Point Archaeological National Site. We're excited to share a job opportunity at one of our partner historic sites! The National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of New York is looking for a dynamic individual to serve as the Director of the Van Cortlandt House Museum in The Bronx. The Van Cortlandt House Museum is the centerpiece of a 1,000-acre urban park that encompasses what was once the Van Cortlandt family’s plantation. The Museum’s research and interpretation focuses on the historical inhabitants of the house from 1749-1823, the social history of those who lived and worked on the property including those who were enslaved by the Van Cortlandt family, and the study of decorative arts. Successful candidates should be interested in programming, collaboration, community outreach, and innovative museum practice. This position is based full-time in-person at the Van Cortlandt House Museum at 6036 Broadway, Bronx, NY. However, the museum will undergo a major restoration projected to begin January 2026, at which time the museum may be closed and this position may have a remote component. We had an energizing morning at the Convening of African American Institutions hosted by the The New York Landmarks Conservancy at the Louis Armstrong House Museum & Archives. Our Executive Director, Meredith Sorin Horsford, had the pleasure of presenting about her current work with HHT, her past accomplishments as Executive Director of the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum , and her role as a Founding Member of the Northern Slavery Collective (NorSC). We connected with old friends and made some new ones! Thanks so much to the organizers for creating this space to connect with old friends, and make new ones. Thank you Greater Hudson Heritage Network (GHHN) for spending the day with us in our collections storage facility at Fort Totten to assess the condition of the building for continued long term storage, and to determine how to utilize these items for public enjoyment going forward. It wasn’t all serious though!
