HFLA is the only interest-free lender supporting all Northeast Ohioans with a genuine need and an ability to repay. We help people overcome financial hurdles, pursue education, and contribute to the economic development of our community. In most cases, HFLA is the only source of support and makes the difference between success and failure for our clients. With over a 97% repayment rate, the funds that the community invests in HFLA are recycled again and again, solving problems for generations. And it works: over 25,000 lives have been transformed through HFLA’s loans.!

  • When Stephanie Kluk decided to create Future Ink Graphics, her Cleveland community came together to give her the chance to make her dream come true. When Jumpstart referred her to HFLA, we were able to push her over the finish line to get right to work. Happy International Women’s Day!   • Do you want to make a difference in your community and join a fantastic team? HFLA is currently seeking applicants for our newest open position Business Application Navigator: Maintain the small business lending portfolio by working directly with applicants throughout the loan application process and coordinating referrals with partner organizations as necessary. This position is part of a team working to ensure our borrowers experience a positive, dignified lending process and successfully repay their loans.     In the one and a half years of being here, Tequila Hopkins has touched the lives of many of our borrowers. She fell in love with the good work HFLA did in the community and now ensures that our borrowers are set up for their payments, what life looks like after HFLA, and what other resources are available. Tee’s favorite part of being a part of HFLA is getting to know all of our borrowers. For her, it’s not just about getting a loan approved, she wants to keep in touch with our borrowers and feel like a part of their network. Tee even keeps all the tokens of affection people have given her over the years at her desk. There are so many people who can’t access traditional lending, and though everyone can’t be approved, she believes that everyone's story needs to be heard.   • https://lnkd.in/eyGSQx6 In 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) started the Poor People’s Campaign to oppose economic inequality through direct, nonviolent action. It is only appropriate to start our Parashat Mishpatim campaign on MLK Day as we carry on this mission, helping individuals in the Northeast Ohio area get on a path of financial stability after exclusion from traditional systems. Though HFLA of Northeast Ohio is a secular organization, we do still honor the Jewish principles that inspired our creation in 1904: a commitment to Tzedek, Justice; to Tzedakah, righteousness or charity; and to Tikkun Olam, the goal of repairing the world. On February 22, Parshat Mishpatim will be read and states “When you lend money to My people, to the poor person [who is] with you, you shall not behave toward him as a creditor; you shall not impose interest upon him.” It also says, “You shall not oppress a stranger; for you know the feelings of a stranger, since you were strangers in the land of Egypt.” The true measure of a community is how we treat each other. We wish to continue to emphasize this spirit of community this year. Our organization has the power to transform the lives of our borrowers, but our work is not done independently. This is where our supporters come in. We all hold the power to transform our communities. Please consider donating during our Parashat Mishpatim campaign to support us in our efforts to help our neighbors and further develop our communities.
