If not, please read further and maybe I can convince you! ?? President Jimmy Carter and Habitat for Humanity You’ve likely seen the many tributes to President Jimmy Carter in the news lately. President Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, first became involved with Habitat for Humanity in 1984 by participating in a team build near their hometown. That initial experience led to a decades-long involvement with Habitat. Even into his 90s, President Carter actively worked on construction sites; Carter’s efforts have contributed to building or repairing over 4,000 homes. His service underscores the idea that anyone, regardless of age or profession, can make a difference in addressing poverty and housing insecurity. Affordable Housing in West Virginia West Virginia faces a shortage of affordable housing, particularly for low to moderate income households. Many of these households are cost-burdened, spending more than half of their income on housing; and, when housing is available, it is often low-quality that can put the residents at risk of their health and safety. We need your help! The Habitat for Humanity model is unique; we build houses and sell them to qualifying homebuyers with a 0% interest mortgage that we originate and hold. In most cases, monthly homeownership costs are less than what the homeowner previously paid in rent. But we can’t do this without your help - we control our costs by leveraging the service of volunteers rather than pay contractors. This September, Habitat for Humanity of Kanawha & Putnam is excited to welcome a team of AmeriCorps NCCC volunteers to our community! These dedicated young adults, aged 18-26, will be working tirelessly alongside our staff and local volunteers to build safe, affordable homes for families in need. For six weeks, the NCCC team will be contributing their time and energy to our 908 Grant Street project and supporting operations at our ReStores. We are thrilled to have them on board and can't wait to see the impact they will make!
