Our team is honored to receive the 2024 AIA EASTERN OKLAHOMA Design Award in Healthcare for the new Tenwek Cardiothoracic Hospital in Bomet, Kenya. Members of our Tulsa office (pictured: Bob Dotson, Meenakshi Krishnasamy, and Tyler Pyle) accepted the award on behalf of all our HFG team. ?? The AIAEOK jury recognized the importance of bringing accessible services to underserved communities: "The design of the project highlights local culture with its dramatic views and bold design feature of the chapel. Nestled within a sprawling 140,000 sq. ft. site, the 9,100 sq. ft. Great Bend Clinic by Clara Barton Hospital embodies both innovation and a community-first approach to healthcare design. This state-of-the-art facility is built for flexibility, with spaces that adapt for different services on designated days. Thoughtfully designed for future growth, the clinic can expand to include up to 12 more exam rooms, 2 procedure rooms, and additional support spaces, ensuring it will evolve to meet the community’s needs. Initially planned as a renovation, the vision soon grew into new construction, offering heightened efficiency and adaptability. Today, the clinic stands ready to serve, featuring a modular configuration that enhances its flexibility. Designed with the community in mind, it also includes a ?-mile walking path for staff, patients, and community members to enjoy. Built for safety and comfort, the clinic combines brick, stucco, and a striking stone wall that unites the exterior and interior spaces. The main lobby and nursing station are filled with natural light, fostering a warm and healing environment for all who enter.
