Please join us in welcoming Kate Beyers to our Hey Team.?Kate is from Lake County, Illinois, and holds a degree in Environmental Sciences with a concentration in Natural Resources and Conservation from Southern New Hampshire University, which she earned online. She brings valuable experience from her recent role in the regulatory branch with?the Army Corps of Engineers-Chicago District, as well as her previous position as a project manager for a landscape construction contractor in Barrington, Illinois, where she worked closely with custom homebuilders. Kate's career journey began as a marine contractor on the Chain O' Lakes. In this position, she gained hands-on experience in constructing commercial piers and seawalls and preparing cost estimates. Kate is excited to leverage her diverse skill set in this new role. Outside of work, she enjoys fishing, horseback riding, and spending quality time with her animals-they truly mean the world to her. She looks forward to getting to know everyone and contributing to the team at Hey and Associates.?

I recently celebrated my 2-year anniversary as a civil engineer at Hey and Associates. As the only black woman engineer at Hey and Associates, I represent about 6% of our engineering workforce.?But nationwide, it is estimated that less than 6% of civil and environmental engineers are African American.?Growing up, I was inspired by Dr. Rodney Hull (Rodney Hull), principal at the time of Nicholson Technology Academy, and Ms. Calloway at Kenwood Academy (Karen Calloway)?to consider a career in STEM. Now, I am looking for opportunities to encourage more young black students to consider a career in environmental or civil engineering. One of those ways is to help and support the STEM scholarship program at the US Minority Contractors Association (USMCA).?Hey and Associates is a member of USMCA's STEM Education Foundation (501c3), which provides mentorship, scholarship, and internship to its member's communities. Please join Hey in supporting these efforts for work force development during Black History Month, and year-round! You can follow USMCA on Linkedin and more information on the STEM scholarship program is available at https://lnkd.in/dYSnv52u. USMCA - U.S. Minority Contractors Association
