March 5th is Herrera Day! Today we celebrate the 45th anniversary of the founding of our firm. Carlos Herrera was selected by the Seattle Water Department in 1980 to lead a water supply research project. Carlos valued diverse perspectives and the importance of teamwork and instilled the belief that collaboration among skilled, dedicated people working toward a common goal fosters a culture of service – not only to our clients but also to each other. In our early years, we focused on water quality, solid waste, and environmental engineering for municipal clients.? Today, our 150+ employee-owners celebrate across 6 regional offices with a broad portfolio of projects including a diverse suite of services applying science, planning, engineering, landscape architecture, and technology solutions to complex environmental challenges.?

Herrera staff, Rachel Johnson and Erynne V., share how Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson has influenced their work, “Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson builds community around climate solutions, showing how climate?action and climate justice can take many shapes and forms. Amidst the often negative and overwhelming news of climate challenges, Ayana highlights what is working and encourages us to think about the best possible climate future. Her most recent book “What if We Get It Right?” has really inspired us.
