Its been a while since we updated the progress on our new addition here at Heritage Consultants, LLC. We are only a couple of weeks from being done with building construction and ready to move in. The carpenters have started the exterior siding work and finished the stonework on the front facade. Interior finishes will be done this week and then the electrical and internet connections will be turned on. This addition will add over 1,500 sq ft of much needed laboratory and office space, helping our company to continue on its growth path. Again, thanks to all our customers over the years to make us successful and thanks to our employees who have endured months of crowded workspaces and noise as the addition was in the works! #archaeology #history #culturalresources #growth

Heritage Consultants, LLC (Heritage) is thrilled to announce that we have been selected as cultural resources contractor to carry out the objectives of an American Battlefield Protection Program Grant, administered by the National Park Service! The tasks associated with the scope of services for this important project are intended to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Battle of Ridgefield (1777) and to promote future preservation and stewardship activities related to this pivotal historic event in Connecticut.?Fieldwork fort the project, which will be starting the spring, will include metal detector/magnetometer survey, GPR investigations, and traditional shovel test and unit excavations. Heritage staff also will be working hand-in-glove with members of the Ridgefield Historical Society researching Revolutionary War records and pension documents to identify specific combatants, including Native American and African Americans. The project also will have a substantial public outreach and engagement component. Specific goals of the project are: --Ascertain?the location of General David Wooster’s Division following the Second Engagement on April 27, 1777. Their location on the battlefield after Wooster was mortally wounded is not known. --Determine?the extent of fighting that occurred in Ridgefield Village following the Third Engagement. Pinpoint where these actions occurred, and which American forces were involved. --Identify?soldiers from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups that participated in the battle. --Explore?the role of Loyalists on Battle strategy, actions, and outcomes.? --Continue?researching military pension records to search for surviving pension materials with any reference to the Danbury Expedition or Ridgefield. --Expand?research for materials related to the Danbury Expedition or Ridgefield in the English National Archives at Kew, Richmond, United Kingdom. --Define?and archaeologically investigate the British campsite location in southern Ridgefield after the village was secured on April 27. This will be the second phase of work on this very important project. It follows up on the previous phase that was completed by Heritage in 2022, wherein the Battle of Ridgefield was documented, as were specific areas of the running battle, including the barricade in the center of town where Benedict Arnold and others held off the British advance. We very much look forward to once again collaborating with the Ridgefield Historical Society! https://lnkd.in/esWhyb5G https://lnkd.in/eBzVYx7F https://lnkd.in/eaDVmwfX #Ridgefield #Archaeology #RevolutionaryWar #GPR #Magnetometer

The Fort Decatur archaeological site in Ledyard, Connecticut has been added the The Archaeological Conservancy's list of Preserves, and is one of only two preserves in Connecticut. This site provides fascinating insights into Connecticut's role in the War of 1812, as well as the indomitable?Commodore Stephen Decatur, hero of the war, shipbuilder, Navy's youngest Captain ever, and key player in the early development of America's Naval forces. This property will now be set aside in perpetuity and will remain as an open archaeological space. Heritage Consultants, LLC is especially proud of having completed all the historical and archaeological investigations at the site, and is happy to have served as a liaison to The Archaeological Conservancy in getting this tremendously important site preserved! There's not another one of these out there! See the full article here: https://lnkd.in/egRjhiQU #TAC #Preservation #historical_archeology
