Each year chaperoning Bay View High School students to Washington DC is different. To say it was an interesting time to be in DC this year is an understatement, and yet it presented lots of authentic learning opportunities for all of us. Each year I am awed by the unique curiosity and specific interests of the students that attend this trip, and this year was no different. What WAS different this year is that we got to meet Senator Tammy Baldwin, and Congresswoman Gwen Moore. Bay View High School students asked awesome questions!
During the trip we packed in a lot. We saw the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Arlington National Cemetery, National Air and Space Museum, Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, Smithsonian, multiple memorials, historic sites, and lots of other things along the way.
I greatly enjoy getting to know students even better, and a trip like this certainly enhances that opportunity. They inspire me, give me hope, energy, and optimism! Thank you to the HERB KOHL EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION INC, and the MPS Foundation for making this trip possible. Myself, and Bay View High School are grateful for the continued opportunity!
