I wanted to spotlight an important project led by Natalie Benamou from HerCsuite?. In addition to her impactful work there, she also leads HER HEALTHX, a nonprofit focused on transforming women’s healthcare experiences. Right now, HER HEALTHX is running a quick 5-question survey to raise awareness about a critical issue: gaslighting in healthcare. This survey aims to gather insights from patients and caregivers to better understand the challenges and bring attention to this important topic. The survey takes less than 2 minutes to complete, and your voice can make a difference! https://lnkd.in/gH8Gt-rd

Medical Gaslighting is Experienced by Healthcare Providers "I can’t tell you how many women I’ve seen who have gone to see numerous doctors, only to be told their issues were stress-related or all in their heads." Dr. Fiona Gupta, Neurologist and Director of Wellness and Health, Dept of Neurosurgery, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City "Many patients will say that the doctors and medical professionals believe that they are exaggerating their symptoms, or they are making up some of their symptoms." Dr. Martin Rutledge, Neurologist specializing in migraines "Medical gaslighting is usually the result of unconscious biases and knowledge gaps in clinical care rather than?conscious bias or malintent on the part of healthcare providers." Chloe Bird, Director of the Center for Health Equity Research at Tufts Medical Center "Women are having to say, ‘No, this isn’t normal for me’ over and over again. What we’re concerned about are those women who don’t say it over again, who just accept what their doctor says, rather than pushing for more testing." Kirsten Sloan, Managing Director of Public Policy for ACS CAN HER HEALTHX mission is improve health outcomes for all women. We encourage you and women you know to take our brief survey: https://lnkd.in/gQF29mqn Together we can make changes happen. #womenshealth #healthcare #improvewomenshealth

? Understanding the Hidden Challenges of Cancer Care For Women? HER HEALTHX recently hosted a panel with inspirational leaders— Molly MacDonald, Kari Lato, and Pam Kohl—who are making a difference in the world of cancer advocacy and education. Our conversation centered on three critical aspects: Financial Toxicity is more than a financial burden—it can be life-altering. Patients often face impossible choices between treatment and everyday necessities. Addressing this issue means making financial support and guidance a priority for better health outcomes. Molly MacDonald shared: “The cost of surviving cancer shouldn’t be another battle patients have to fight. We need to be advocates for comprehensive financial support.” Extravasation can have devastating consequences if chemotherapy or other drugs inadvertently leak into surrounding tissues. Raising awareness and pushing for immediate intervention protocols can save patients from unnecessary pain and complications. Kari Lato emphasized: “It’s about vigilance and advocacy—knowing the risks and acting fast can make a world of difference.” Metastatic Breast Cancer requires a continuous and adaptive approach. Personalized care plans, symptom management, and patient empowerment are essential to maintaining quality of life and hope. Pam Kohl reflected: “Every patient deserves the latest treatments and a team that listens. It’s about treating the whole person, not just the cancer.” These insights remind us of the critical work needed to improve health outcomes and ensure that every patient feels supported in their journey. Stories like Pam Kohl's are the reason we are passionate about addressing medical gaslighting to improve health outcomes. New PBS Documentary Everyone should watch this documentary. Thank you Priya Bathija and Nyoo Health for sharing it. #womenshealth #menopause
Founder + CEO of Nyoo Health | Healthcare Executive | Attorney | Professor | Nonprofit Trustee | Founder SABA Leadership Institute | Views are my own
There was no better way to celebrate World Menopause Day than by attending the New York City premiere of The M Factor: Shredding the Silence on Menopause. This PBS film is the first documentary to address menopause. And, it almost didn’t happen. The filmmakers — Tamsen Fadal, Denise Pines and joanne lamarca mathisen — shared they were told by so many that there was “no audience for this topic.” Women are 51% of our population and as Dr. Sharon Malone says in the film, “menopause is the one universal female experience.” An estimated 1.1 billion women globally will experience menopause by 2025. 2 million women in the United States enter menopause each year, and 85% of them will experience menopause symptoms. And there are men in each of those women’s lives that need to learn about menopause. But YUP, absolutely no audience for this topic ?? Tamsen, Denise, and Joanne, thank you for pushing through and getting this done. The film is wonderful. I learned, I laughed. I left feeling slightly less afraid of menopause, and hopeful that more women will get the support they need throughout this life change. I also loved hearing from so many of the top doctors and advocates on menopause all in one film, including my friend Dr. Sunbal (Somi) Javaid. We have much work to do, but it felt truly special to celebrate this moment together yesterday with so many leaders in women’s health. Everyone can and should watch the film on PBS: https://lnkd.in/eaJyMzdW

Today is World Menopause Day 57 Million Women in the United States are experiencing menopause or perimenopause. It can be a complex time and often symptoms are dismissed. Thank you Bayer and Yesmean H. Wahdan, MD for helping make the conversation around menopause normalized. "Every day we celebrate and advocate for women’s health and the need for improved access to information, education and care, especially for women entering into this next stage of life. Because, although menopause may be having a cultural moment in the U.S., there is still so much to be done" https://lnkd.in/gXsMcsMd #wmd2024 #womenshealth #medicalgaslighting #improvehealthoutcomes

Sharing this event happening this evening with Sally Wolf and Tami Eagle Bowling. Supporting patients with Metastatic Breast Cancer. ?? Watch here: https://lnkd.in/gk7MZCuk #womenshealth #mbc
Wellbeing Advisor ? Stage IV Cancer Thriver & Advocate ? Inspirational Speaker ? Auntie ? Dancer ? Ex: Booz, Time Warner, NBCUniversal ? Alum: Harvard, Stanford GSB ? Empowering others to flourish in work & life
If you loved the Northern Lights, here's a different way the skies are lighting up in a magical way tonight: Patient advocacy takes many forms. Tonight, with the amazing Tami Eagle Bowling broadcasting live, it'll light up 270+ landmarks in pink, teal, & green. Here's why: Pure pink doesn't include metastatic breast cancer. In other words, the pink we see everywhere all October doesn't actually represent those living with Stage IV like me & Tami. Or the 115 who die each day in the US alone. Amidst 31 days of pink, one - today - focuses on MBC. And tonight, Tami will show many of the almost 300 buildings, bridges and more that are lighting up. From One World Trade in NYC to the Harbour Bridge in New Zealand to many in between. With patients sharing stories and top musical talent joining too. All to raise much-needed funds for Stage IV research. And all in pink (where it originated), teal (for healing and spirituality) and green (the renewal of nature). The only stage that kills is also the stage that receives the fewest research dollars. And the least attention. Tami and I work to change that. And tonight at 8pm ET, you can support her advocacy and see this magic. (Yes I know the Mets game will be on - dual screens work!!) :) Please follow: 1) Tami here to learn more (plus she's awesome!) and 2) Light Up MBC on FB and IG to watch. Please support by tuning in or engaging however you can - from likes to comments to reposts, it all helps!! Thank you.?????? Photos: 1. Tami and I holding up LightUp MBC tshirts this week listing the many cities participating. 2. The two of us on MBC Day 2019 on Park Ave in front of the then-only NYC building participating. 3. Two screenshots on how to tune in tonight.
