New Menopause Resource “A free menopause advice line is here ?? Priya Bathija tried it out and here is what she thought … The hotline was launched by Menopause Mandate in partnership with Alloy Women's Health. While the hotline doesn’t provide medical advice, it offers free 15-minute, one-to-one online video appointments to help tackle stigma and give women real-time support. Priya Bathija shares her experience: Some thoughts after my appointment: ?? The appointment was easy to make and they had good availability. ?? The appointment started and ended on time. I was connected to a physician assistant (let’s call her Sophia) through doxy.me. Sophia is certified in menopause. ?? I prepared a list of questions in advance. It set the agenda for the call and we made very good use of the 15 minutes. ?? Sophia did an excellent job answering basic questions — how do you know if you are in perimenopause, what’s the best way to track symptoms, etc. Her answers tracked with what I've learned from other menopause experts. ?? She also offered a clear explanation of how birth control can alleviate symptoms of perimenopause and when a transition from birth control to HRT could be helpful. She made what I’ve heard and read make sense. The call was worth it for that alone. ?? There were some questions Sophia could not answer (specifically those around differences in experiences based on race/ethnicity). But, she validated them, shared what she could, and encouraged me to talk with my medical provider. ?? She provided additional resources, including a link to a menopause-trained physician locator (menopause.org). She shared that if wait times for those physicians were too long, she suggested Alloy, Midi Health, and hims & hers as virtual options. Overall, this was a very positive experience. I give it five stars. ?????????? It’s a quick and easy access point for women to raise awareness and provide women with education they aren’t getting elsewhere as they navigate this life phase. Check it out if you have unanswered questions about perimenopause or menopause. —— Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e7h5Rsbn. ?? Friday Inspiration: Know Before You Go Conversations Heart disease is the #1 killer of women, yet it often goes undetected until it's too late. Don’t wait for symptoms to appear—start the conversation with your doctor today. Here are 8 things you need to know and discuss with your cardiologist or primary care physician: 1?? Know Your Blood Pressure – High blood pressure increases heart attack and stroke risk. The real target should be 120/80. 2?? Check Your Cholesterol – Keep HDL (good cholesterol) above 50 mg/dL and triglycerides below 150 mg/dL. 3?? Monitor Your Blood Sugar – A fasting blood glucose level above 100 mg/dL could indicate prediabetes or diabetes—both major heart risk factors. 4?? Measure Your Waistline – A waist circumference over 35 inches is linked to higher heart disease risk. 5?? Prioritize Sleep – Poor sleep increases heart disease risk. Strive for at least 7 hours of quality sleep per night. 6?? Reduce Stress – Chronic stress triggers inflammation, which can harm your heart. Practice deep breathing, meditation, or other relaxation techniques. 7?? Get Moving – Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week to strengthen your heart. 8?? Eat for Your Heart – Focus on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, while reducing sodium, sugar, and unhealthy fats. ?? Before your next doctor’s visit, use this list to ask the right questions and take control of your heart health. ?? Read more from the Katz Institute for Women’s Health by Jennifer H. ?? Go Red For Women Day ?? Today, on #GoRedforWomenDay, we shine a spotlight on the importance of heart health for women everywhere. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in women, taking 1 in 3 lives annually. But here's the good news—most cardiac events are preventable with awareness and action. Recently, Founder Natalie Benamou interviewed Patty Jassak, MS, RN, CHCP, FACEhp about Heart Health is the New Self-Care. Listen to the interview here: https://lnkd.in/guhnXXgH 4 Ways to Make Heart Care A Priority 1. Focus on Your Self-Care:?Make time for relaxation, exercise, and proper nutrition. These foundational elements are crucial for maintaining overall well-being and heart health.?? “It’s more important than anything else that you take care of you, that you have some time to relax, time to spend alone, time to take a walk, time to exercise, time to eat right.” -Patty Jassak 2. Recognize and Communicate Symptoms:?Understand that symptoms of heart disease in women can be subtle and often misinterpreted as stress or anxiety. Patty emphasizes the importance of proactive health management. “We often dismiss those symptoms until they’re flat in your face and you can’t ignore them anymore, and that sometimes, unfortunately for some people, can be too late.” -Patty Jassak 3. Utilize Technology and Resources:?Leverage available tools like smartwatches, health apps, and blood pressure monitors to keep track of your heart health. Make use of reputable resources like the American Heart Association for guidance and support.? “A great resource is the?American Heart Association. Discover and evaluate the best treatments.”– Natalie Benamou 4. Communicating with Healthcare Providers:?The more information you can deliver in detail the better the health outcomes. “Speak to healthcare professionals and describe your symptoms: I’ve been dizzy, I’m nauseated, my arm has been tingling, I’m having tightness in my chest, I feel like I have acid reflux.”-Patty Jassak Find out how you can improve health outcomes for your heart here: https://lnkd.in/eKzPdz-z Together we can all Go Red For Women and improve health outcomes! #womenshealth Systole Health American Heart Association #hearthealth
