Hep C is a serious but curable infection. Left untreated, it can lead to liver damage, cancer, and other long-term health issues. The good news? Today’s treatments are simple, effective, and usually take just 2–3 months. If you’ve ever been at risk even if it was years ago it’s worth getting tested and, if needed, treated. Curing Hep C not only protects your own health but also helps prevent transmission to others. Treatment is available and ready to cure you. Today I co-sponsored a New York City Council Educational Briefing on Viral Hepatitis with Ronni Marks and Hep Free NYC. In Council District 3, we saw the highest number of reported cases of hepatitis C from 2014-2021. Hepatitis is a serious issue that can lead to liver damage, cancer, and death. With 86,000 New Yorkers living with hepatitis C, awareness and access to testing, treatment, and care are crucial. As a Council Member, I’m committed to ensuring adequate funding for organizations and continuing the Viral Hepatitis Initiative. Let’s work together to fight this disease and protect our communities.
