History in the making, that defines the work of Dr. Cecelia Boardman, a surgeon with Henrico Doctors’ Hospital. As we recognize amazing colleagues doing incredible work, during Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating Dr. Boardman’s 1500th robotic-assisted surgery. First implemented more than 25 years ago – with Henrico Doctors’ Hospital on the forefront of only a few organizations using this technology, Boardman has significantly expanded the gynecologic-oncology program. A driver for Dr. Boardman, “one of the biggest things is [providing an] individualized experience so the patient feels secure in decision-making and that the doctors are meeting all their needs for care, for family and for life.’ For her, it is personal. “[I had a] great aunt who died of ovarian cancer when I was 17. She loved her physician and that gave me a vision of what she experienced as a patient – from soup to nuts, an old-time, country doctor… [who did it all]. I support my patients where they are - from diagnosis, surgery, chemo, end of life or palliative, and for the long term.” Dr. Boardman, who supports so many in our community, is very passionate about having the robotic-assisted tool in her toolbelt, she says “…the ability to do very complex surgery through minor intervention for the patient – tiny incisions allow for amazingly complex operations that I never thought possible without a long stay and recovery…the ability to provide care has jumped so far ahead as [this technology has] improved. [Today you have] an exceedingly short hospital stay, and many procedures done as outpatient allow for a much faster return to life.” Dr. Cecelia Boardman – a leader in robotic assisted surgery and the gynecologic-oncology program with Henrico Doctors’ Hospital – a woman making history!

Colleagues across our campuses showed their support of #WearRedDay on this sunny February 7th! Heart disease touches the lives of so many – wearing red on the first Friday each February is an initiative of the American Heart Association and its ‘Go Red for Women’ program, raising awareness of cardiovascular disease and stroke prevention. More than 44% of women aged 20+, in this nation, live with some form of heart disease. Wearing red helps raise awareness and promotes education of heart health and our communities benefit from a better well-being, for all! ‘Hearty’ with American Heart Association – Virginia visited our Forest campus and shared time with teams including Henrico Doctors’ Hospital’s Cardio CATH Lab team which is ranked 5th in the nation’s Top 10 Community Cardiovascular Hospitals on Premier’s Top 50 Cardiovascular Programs. ‘Hearty’ also shared a hug with Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ashish Sethi and Director Laura Lane, who proudly showed a picture of her 5-year-old nephew Donovan, born with a congenital heart condition - he offered a very special message to his aunt today, “Red shirt for me! Thank you.” We say 'Thank you' to all our colleagues, who show up each and every day – today in red. ??? You are the heart of our community! ??? #HCAHeart #HealthierTomorrows #WeShowUp #GoRedforWomen

A quarter of a century ago, only 5 U.S. hospitals were granted FDA approval for use of this nation’s first robotic surgery system- Henrico Doctors’ Hospital was one of them. This week, Dr. Tyler Ford with Virginia Gynecologic Oncology, part of the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, performed his 1000th robotic-assisted surgery! When interviewed about his dedication to the field, Dr. Ford shared “I was drawn to oncology because it is unique. When we think about just generally helping people, there’s never a time, that I think, in someone’s life where they need more help, then after a diagnosis of cancer.” The team celebrated this outstanding milestone - knowing how many lives have changed thanks to Dr. Ford’s dedication. Congratulations! Learn more about Dr. Tyler Ford's journey: https://lnkd.in/e4-Q_ST7 #HealthierTomorrows
