And that’s a wrap. We’re admittedly riding a caffeine and sugar high. Thank YOU for making this Money20/20 such a fun and memorable day. And BNY, thank you for the amazing partnership and all the things you do with Orum, including helping bring the world’s best coffee back to Vegas. ????? We’ll be hanging in the BNY VIP area of The Orum Cafe all day Tuesday if you’d like to say hello. If you’re looking for coffee and donuts, you’ll have to wait until next time. ?? #Money2020 #MakeMoneyMove #TheOrumCafe

Orum transforms payment technology for business by revolutionizing payment speed, certainty and orchestration through unified API-based solutions.

Recently, I shared some very personal news: Late last year I was diagnosed with genetically linked early-stage #breastcancer. I needed a double mastectomy and was facing an unexpected medical leave, and I had no idea how to manage that as #founder and CEO of ?Orum.io?. So I wrote my own playbook. But I didn’t want others to have to go it alone. That’s what drove me to be vulnerable and share my biggest leadership lessons from the experience with Christine Haughney Dare-Bryan and Inc. Magazine You can read that here ?? ?https://lnkd.in/ePM4Vtp4 I received such a beautiful outpouring of support after this article. People also had more questions about my story: How did I manage recovery, emotionally and physically? What was the process like as I returned to work? What was the hardest or most surprising aspect? That’s why I’m sharing even more today: the answers to these questions, plus more about my breast cancer journey as a founder and a human being, are on the Orum blog? ?? https://lnkd.in/enSnbHuA?

Orum transforms payment technology for business by revolutionizing payment speed, certainty and orchestration through unified API-based solutions.

What are the two secrets you MUST KNOW before founding a company? ?? As founder/CEO of ?Orum.io?, people ask me certain questions often: how I raised capital, or what I think of their startup idea. They’re eager and hungry and I get it—but these are generally the wrong questions to begin. Before you quit your job and take that leap, you must deeply understand these two realities: ?? Venture capital expects a BIG return on those dollars. ?? Hard truth: Getting to your first 1-10 million in annual recurring revenue is BARELY the beginning. When you take venture dollars, you have to think in terms of how you’ll get to $200 million-plus. Take a recent conversation I had with a founder stressing over financials. “We’re making $1 million in revenue and growing only 2-3% a month. It’s not enough!” In an ordinary world, those are awesome statistics and that’s a great business. But when you take money from a VC, returns are predicated on EXTREMELY high multiples—so your business and the market opportunity must support that expectation. That was a big part of how Orum raised capital for our money movement solutions. When we started just five years ago, $55 trillion moved via ACH every year; today it’s $80 trillion. ?? Plan to build something you know deeply, and will find interesting for a decade or more. ?? Last month Orum celebrated its fifth birthday, and I joke that we’re halfway to an overnight success. Building takes time; as the founder you’ll need VERY sustained interest in the problem you seek to solve. Stamina and resilience are what will carry you through all the challenges and setbacks through the years. If you’re not truly passionate, and not comfortable with your identity being tied to this process for a very long time…it might not be the move for you. _____ Founders, does this resonate with you—what would you want your fellow builders to know? Would-be founders, what questions do you have? Sound off in the comments! ??

    VP, People at Orum.io

Last month we posted ONE job…and received 1,300 applications in the first 72 hours ?? With those kinds of numbers, how can you stand out from the competition in a remote-setting interview? Here are my 5 best tips for standing out in a remote #interview as VP of People for ? Orum.io ?: ?? Don’t forget to break the ice and make a human connection. ?? I recently had a candidate who had a collection of hats hanging on the wall behind them and I started the conversation by asking them about it! It was a great way to break the ice and build some rapport before we got into the interview. How might you authentically show up in a way that represents you best? I’m always happy to use a few minutes to get to know the person behind the candidate I’m speaking to! ??? With that said…interviews are not the same thing as typical Zoom calls. Set up a professional space for your remote interview. ??? When you’re interviewing remotely, you certainly don’t need an HGTV-worthy home office—but you do need a clean, quiet space with a reliable internet connection. Organize your space, and if needed, use those virtual or blurred background features. (You’d be SHOCKED by what I’ve seen in the background of some video interviews!) ?? Apply even if you don’t meet 100% of the criteria. ?? This is a passion point for us at Orum, because one of our core values is diversity of thought. We don’t require college degrees. We also write this in our job postings: “Research shows that while men apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% of the criteria, women and other marginalized folks tend to only apply when they check every box.” We actively encourage people to go ahead and apply—and I advise the same for you. ?? A concise, tailored, specific resume and introduction matters. ?? Your resume is generally how you get in the door, so tailoring it to the specific company and job is always time well spent. Focus on results, how you drove benefits that aligned with overall business goals, and experiences that are relevant to this position. What’s your pitch for YOU? ? Show your curiosity by posing a memorable, thoughtful question. ? Recently, one candidate said to me: “Tell me about Orum in 30 seconds.” He had already done his research and knew a lot about us, but he wanted to hear “the pitch” and find out what he could better understand before moving on to speak with other folks on the team. He leveraged what he knew, and he was genuinely curious about what he might be missing. It was a great question that I remember—and so I remember that candidate, too. A final note: I recognize some of this may sound obvious, but after reviewing so many resumes, I can promise you that some candidates miss them. And in an employer’s #jobmarket, don’t give them an easy reason to pass you by—when instead you can blow them away.
