    Today, March 21, marks one year since I underwent a double mastectomy to help treat my genetically linked early stage breast cancer. Here’s what I’ve learned in these 12 months that were like none other. ?? 1?? I am not alone in this experience—but I am one of the few in tech speaking up. So many cancer survivors in my tech network have reached out privately, and I’m blown away by how many people in my extended circles have firsthand experience. Very few speak out about it publicly, which I understand: It’s a very personal and emotional choice. But for me it’s been incredibly valuable, an instrument of healing, and the catalyst for more genuine and deep connections. 2?? You can hold two truths: I’m a founder/CEO running a company, and I’m someone who needs to put my health first. These two facts can coexist, and they have to. My company ? Orum.io ? is one of my biggest personal priorities; though there was no question I had to focus on my health after my diagnosis, it was hard to reconcile that I suddenly needed to step away for eight weeks to undergo surgery. I had no idea what it would look like for Orum or for me, and that was really tough. 3?? Our company’s contingency plan unlocked all of us to lead the company in an even better way. Our plan for my leave worked SO well, and the benefits resonate today. We set up two of our senior leadership members – Chief Commercial Officer Gregory Gittrich and Chief Operating Officer Reggie Hall – as proxies for me during this time, dividing key areas of responsibility. They worked together exceptionally well, Orum continued to flourish during my leave, and when I returned? they continued to own some of my previous duties. Now I can focus more of my time on product innovation and other highly strategic priorities like building relationships with financial partners, all of which is a massive benefit for Orum. My health journey continues, and I know this time next year I’ll have even more learnings to reflect on. This is now a part of my story—a story I’ll continue to share. ? QED Investors' Nigel Morris reminded us: Fintech revenue ($320B) is still less than 3% of global financial services ($14T) ? His predicted growth: 10% market share within a decade ? Food for thought: Growing fintech's slice means competing in lending, where the bulk of financial services dollars flow ?? Recession Resilience ? Surface-level optimism: Lots of excitement around innovation while recession concerns were generally absent (for now) at the conference ? Behind the scenes: SimpleClosure CEO Dori Yona shared a telling trend — rising acquisitions driven primarily to absorb target companies' cash reserves ? Silver lining potential: Cost-cutting imperatives could accelerate adoption of some cost-saving fintech solutions. Great hearing finally CEO Felix Rodriguez's take on this. ??
