The email you send after an interview can be the difference between getting an offer and being rejected. Rather than sending a generic thank-you note, craft an 'Impact Email'—a strategic follow-up that reinforces why you’re the best fit for the role. Tailor your email to each person you spoke with, aligning your message with their specific concerns and priorities. To strengthen your position, ask key questions before the interview ends. “How do I compare with other candidates?” and “How do you feel about moving my candidacy forward?” can uncover objections you still have time to address. One client learned they were leaning toward another candidate with more direct experience. She used her Impact Email to highlight her unique competitive advantage—she got the offer. Another client was initially rejected for lacking certain analytic experience. He followed up with an email offering to analyze company data to prove his ability. They took him up on his offer, and he ultimately landed the role. Even if you receive a rejection, a well-crafted response can sometimes turn a 'no' into a 'yes.' #hellmanncareerconsulting #roberthellmann #JobSearch #InterviewTips https://lnkd.in/eBU6NV5r

Many professionals are reassessing their careers, wondering if they should take a different path. One way to gain clarity is by developing a life vision—a strategic roadmap comparing your ideal future with your current reality and identifying the steps to close the gap. Look ahead and envision your ideal life 5, 10, or 15 years from now. Where do you live? What work are you doing, if any? Who is in your life? Work backward to determine where you need to be in 5, 3, and 1 year to reach that vision. Then assess how career moves you make now can help you to achieve this vision. In the process, identify your motivated skills—what you’re both good at and enjoy using—and ensure your career aligns with your core values. You're more likely to get what you've decided you want quickly if you're proactive. That is, go way beyond job postings. Build relationships with decision-makers and tap into the hidden job market. Play the numbers game by engaging in more high-value conversations to increase your chances of success. #hellmanncareerconsulting #roberthellmann #CareerDevelopment #JobSearch https://lnkd.in/e7cf2Sgb

Many jobseekers give up too soon after radio silence from an employer. But no news doesn’t always mean rejection. You can improve your chances of landing the job by taking strategic follow-up steps. Time your interview wisely. Interviewing later in the process makes you more memorable and gives you better insights into what they truly need—helping you craft a stronger follow-up message. Stay on their radar. If you don’t hear back within two weeks, send a “keeping-in-touch” email. Reinforce your enthusiasm, mention other opportunities moving forward, offer to provide more information, and perhaps bring in additional thoughts regarding how you could help. If you do get rejected, turn it into an opportunity. Ask for feedback, express interest in staying in touch, and request referrals; essentially bring the people you interviewed with into your network. Some candidates secure offers this way—even after multiple rejections! #JobSearch #CareerSuccess #InterviewTips #hellmanncareerconsulting #roberthellmann https://lnkd.in/ep_MVDQ5

If you’re pursuing a C-suite, partner, or board role, a strong bio is essential. Those who would hire you want to see how appealing your story would be when shown publicly to investors, partners, prospective employees or customers. Unlike a resume, a bio tells a concise, compelling story of your career and personal qualities in a single page. Write in the third person, include a professional photo, and open with a short statement summarizing your experience. Differentiate yourself with key accomplishments and list relevant expertise in a scannable format. Keep the bio between 280-340 words, ensuring each paragraph builds on the prior one to create a clear, impressive narrative. Consider highlighting your leadership, impact, and board experience using selective bolding for key takeaways. #ExecutiveBio #CareerGrowth #Leadership #hellmanncareerconsulting #roberthellmann https://lnkd.in/eRmCVqSa

To make your presentations memorable, surprise your audience right from the start. People remember the unusual—use that to your advantage! For example, I coached a client to begin his presentation to a Fortune 500 audience with a slide showing just one large number: $30 million. Then he said: "30 million dollars. That’s how much our company loses each year due to high turnover. But we can cut that in half with a $100,000 investment." The audience was hooked by the shocking cost and simple fix, immediately paying attention. #hellmanncareerconsulting #roberthellmann #presentationtips #audienceengagement #leadership #publicspeaking #careerstrategy #communication https://lnkd.in/eHBaaF4H

In challenging work relationships, communication is often at the core of the issue. A powerful way to resolve conflicts and improve collaboration involves taking a different approach to communication: active/reflective listening. Here’s how it works: Pause your reactive impulse: Resist the urge to respond immediately, especially in a negative or defensive way. Listen carefully: Hear your colleague’s perspective without interrupting or getting defensive. Reflect back what you’ve heard: Ensure you truly understand their point of view. In the process, they'll also feel heard. Empathize, then share your perspective: Use non-accusatory language to express your own thoughts and feelings. This approach can prevent misunderstandings and transform difficult conversations into productive ones, allowing for stronger, more effective relationships. #hellmanncareerconsulting #roberthellmann #leadership #communicationskills #workplacerelationships #conflictresolution #careersuccess https://lnkd.in/eMQgpn_B

Your first 100 days in a new job set the foundation for long-term success. Start early by building relationships, learning quickly, and doing a personal SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats). Clarify expectations with your boss as quickly as possible, and schedule regular check-ins. In your first 30 days, begin to create a "Stakeholder Map" to help ensure your key relationships are as strong as possible. Look for easy wins to build credibility. Share your 6-12 month plan with your boss by day 30 and aim for key wins by day 100. In a virtual environment, be intentional about staying connected and maintaining strong communication. #hellmanncareerconsulting #roberthellmann #careertransition #leadership #newjobtips https://lnkd.in/ekgMPEr9

A number of techniques make the challenge of achieving ambitious career and job search goals easier. 1. Visualize your goal: Connect your goal to your emotions by imagining success. 2. Set SMART goals: Make your goals specific and measurable. For example, instead of “get a new job,” aim for “secure a Marketing Director role in healthcare within one year.” 3. Overcome mental hurdles: - Procrastination: Start small with just two minutes of action. - Precrastination: Don’t rush in—plan first. - Fear: Instead of goal-setting, consider "Fear Setting" - how warranted are your fears, are there ways to mitigate them, and what's the cost of NOT doing the thing you fear? - Feeling overwhelmed: Break goals into smaller tasks and use a to-do list. - Perfectionism: Focus on the 20% of efforts that yield 80% of results. #CareerDevelopment #JobSearch #GoalSetting #hellmanncareerconsulting #roberthellmann https://lnkd.in/ejWiWK5n

Your LinkedIn profile and resume have much in common and should work together, but they also have key differences. One of those differences: You should only have one LinkedIn profile, but you may have multiple resume versions depending on your job targets. If you're pursuing more than one career path, you can either keep your profile broad to appeal to multiple audiences or focus it on your primary job target. - there's no one-size-fits-all answer here. Your LinkedIn profile is also more visible than your resume, so be mindful of confidentiality or claiming things that someone might say you didn't do. Also, since LinkedIn is a social platform, first-person language makes your profile more engaging. Finally, take advantage of LinkedIn-specific sections to strengthen your presence and increase your chances of being found for candidate searches in which you're interested. https://lnkd.in/esrsh-y2 #LinkedInProfile #ResumeTips #JobTargets #RobertHellmann #HellmannCareerConsulting
