We are excited to announce that Helicoid Industries Ltd is?collaborating with Spirit AeroSystems, Belfast, Imperial College London, DATUM TOOL DESIGN LTD and Loop Technology Ltd on a pioneering Spirit-led project that will explore a novel ???????????????????? ????????????????-???????????? (??????) resin infusion technique aimed at producing ultra-lightweight, damage-tolerant aerostructures at high production rates. The focus is on creating next-generation multi-spar wing torque boxes using advanced composite materials, automated processes, and innovative design methods. For Helicoid, being part of this collaboration is a significant step as we bring our expertise in bio-inspired #Helicoid damage tolerant designs to the aerospace market. Working with global aerospace leaders like Spirit, leading academic institutions like Imperial College London and two specialist SMEs, Datum Tool Design Ltd and Loop Technology Ltd reinforces our commitment to innovation and pushing the boundaries of the aerospace industry. The IVI project is supported by the ATI Programme, a joint Government and industry investment to maintain and grow the UK’s competitive position in civil aerospace design and manufacture. Helicoid Industries has patented technology that will disrupt the composite industry. Growth of the composite market to its current $70 billion annually is due to numerous industries demanding lighter and stronger products with improved performance and energy efficiency. The helicoid architecture will make all composite material and products even lighter, stronger and more impact resistant while enabling a lower overall manufacturing cost. Development of the helicoid technology has occurred over the past 14 years by over 60 researchers from 16 universities and almost $12 million on R&D. The helicoid evolved millions of years ago in the internal structure of the mantis shrimp to protect its club while it pulverizes prey with incredible speed and force. UCR reverse engineered the club and determined that it is not the material, but the structure that provides the strength and toughness. The helicoid and has now been broadly patented by UCR and licensed to Helicoid Industries to commercialize its use in all composite materials.
