A huge thank you to the San Diego Nothing Bundt Cakes team for volunteering at the Center recently. Their team supported us by helping to organize incoming donations which will go on sale soon in our Orphaned Objects Designer Resale shop and helped our Education staff prepare crafts for our critter campers. When the work was done they wrapped up their day with some well-deserved puppy cuddles! ???? We truly value our volunteer groups and appreciate all the time and effort they dedicate to helping the Center. If you're interested in getting involved, visit https://lnkd.in/g_5Sifpa

Make Space for LA Starting this Friday!???? Los Angeles and surrounding area shelters are overflowing after the devastating wildfires, leaving countless pets with nowhere to go. We’re stepping up, and you can too. ?? We’re excited to announce Make Space for LA, a lifesaving adoption event running March 14 - March 23 at Helen Woodward Animal Center in partnership with Blue Buffalo. Blue Buffalo will cover all pet adoption fees to help pets find loving homes and free up space in overcrowded shelters. They will also send pets home with a free starter bag of food and other goodies they can enjoy! The need is urgent. Since the fires, shelters like SPCA LA and Pasadena Humane have been overwhelmed, making it harder to rescue at-risk pets. By adopting, you’re not just saving one life, you’re making room for other pets in need. Mark your calendars, spread the word, and be ready to adopt. Let’s make space, save lives, and give these pets the second chance they deserve. ???? Visit https://lnkd.in/gbp2_FCZ to meet all of our available pets.

Harper’s Heart Can’t Wait, She Needs You Now! Donate to save Harper and more pets like her: https://lnkd.in/eGVVB4Vr This sweet 5-year-old Chihuahua was privately surrendered to Helen Woodward Animal Center last month. During her medical evaluation, our veterinarians discovered she has Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a congenital heart defect that has gone untreated since birth. Without surgery, Harper’s heart will continue to struggle, putting her at risk for heart failure. The good news? PDA is treatable with a complex surgery that requires a specialist, and once repaired, Harper is expected to live a long, happy, and healthy life. But she needs your help to get there. You can provide Harper and pets like her get the specialized treatments they need. Harper's treatment will cost approximately $6,000. Every dollar brings her closer to a second chance at life, love, and a forever home. Give today and help Harper and other pets like her get the life-saving emergency treatments they need! Other Ways to Help: - Share Harper’s story to spread awareness. - Make a monthly gift to help more pets like Harper.

Last week, Helen Woodward Animal Center's Pets Without Walls program had the privilege of visiting the Los Coyotes Tribal Reservation, providing essential veterinary care to pets in need. Our medically trained staff offered free vaccinations, microchipping, flea and tick prevention, and wellness exams, all at no cost to the community. Living in remote areas can make access to veterinary services incredibly challenging. That's why we're honored to partner with the Los Coyotes community and bring these much-needed resources directly to their beloved pets. This special visit was made possible thanks to the generosity of a dear friend of the Center, Joann Randall. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Petco Love and their Vaccinated & Loved campaign, which supplied the core vaccines we provided to every patient. We’re also grateful to Jersey Mike's Subs for fueling our hardworking medical team with lunch and giving free sub vouchers to the Los Coyotes Tribal members. Together, we're making a lasting difference, one pet at a time! ????

Hashbrown took a blind leap of faith, and is now searching for the love that will guide him home. ???? Alone and disoriented, Hashbrown was found wandering the streets of Wailuku, Maui, in early November. With no microchip, no form of ID, and no one coming to claim him, it became clear that he had been abandoned. But his biggest challenge wasn’t just being lost, it was navigating a world he couldn’t see. A medical exam confirmed that Hashbrown had been blind since birth, left to fend for himself in complete darkness. Yet despite all of this, his heart remained full of light. At Maui Humane, Hashbrown greeted every dog and person with love, proving that blindness didn’t stop him from embracing life. But his future was uncertain. With adoptions at an all-time low due to the lasting effects of the wildfires and a declining local population, Hashbrown’s chances of finding a home were slim, especially as a special-needs dog. The shelter had been transferring animals to LA, but with the recent devastating fires there, that lifeline had been cut off. When Helen Woodward Animal Center asked SPCA LA how we could continue to help in the wake of the January fires, we were asked to reach out to Maui Humane to take in animals they could no longer place. Hashbrown was the first name on their list. They knew he deserved more than the uncertain future ahead of him. He deserved a family who would see him for the incredible soul he is. So, on Sunday, Hashbrown took a leap of faith. He boarded a plane bound for San Diego, where a new chapter of his life would begin. He received a full medical check-up and was placed in a loving foster home, where he quickly made friends with his foster family and their two dogs. In just one day, he showed the same resilience and trust that had touched so many hearts along the way. Now, we’re searching for the perfect adopter, someone who will show Hashbrown that the world doesn’t need to be seen to be felt. Ideally, his new home will be a one-story house with small accommodations to help him navigate, but more than anything, he needs someone with patience, kindness, and a heart as big as his own. To help him succeed, Helen Woodward Animal Center is offering a free training session with expert trainer Rob Kuty of San Diego Pet Training to help his adopter learn the best ways to support a blind dog. Hashbrown has already proven that love is something you don’t need to see to believe. Now, he just needs someone to believe in him. ?? We are accepting adoption applications for Hashbrown! Could you be the one to guide Hashbrown home?

SUCCESS STORY OF THE WEEK ?? Sometimes, the perfect pet finds you when you least expect it. ?? After losing a beloved furry family member, Jackie wasn’t sure if she was ready to adopt again. But when she visited our adoption kennels, a gentle pair of eyes stopped her in her tracks. That’s when she met Maya, a sweet, 5-month-old Labrador Retriever/Anatolian Shepherd blend. At first, Jackie and her husband planned to meet a young puppy, but something about Maya felt different. As they spent time together, the connection was undeniable. Maya wasn’t just the right dog, she was meant for them. Now, she’s bringing endless joy into their lives, from learning new tricks to discovering the pure happiness of chasing tennis balls. Jackie describes Maya as a “real light” in their lives, blossoming more each day. She’s gentle, loving, and even trying to win over the family cats one tail wag at a time. It’s a beautiful reminder that sometimes when we think we’re rescuing them, they’re actually rescuing us. Read Jackie and Maya’s heartfelt story and let love find you, too: https://lnkd.in/gTNX9HDF
