Earlier this week, members of our team joined the Cement Association of Canada in Ontario for lobby days. Together, we advocated for key policy priorities, including continued work on decarbonization, infrastructure investment, alternative fuels, and general support for the building materials industry. We always appreciate the opportunity to engage with key stakeholders on topics that keep the industry moving forward.

Earlier this week, members from our team in Allentown, PA, attended Connecting Our Talents: Women in STEM. Female undergrad/graduate students in STEM fields were invited to showcase their research and share their passions with companies like Heidelberg Materials. It was a great event to introduce some of these bright, passionate young women to the possibility of joining Heidelberg Materials in the next step in their STEM journey. We could not be more excited about this continued partnership with Women In Science Demonstrating Outstanding Merits.

We have a passion for sustainability and using more slag cement in concrete to achieve lower carbon concrete mixtures. Slag is a key lever for concrete producers to quickly reduce carbon emissions. Coupling slag with EcoCemPLC? helps us make significant progress towards our concrete sustainability goals by 2030. We are currently on a sustainability journey with many others at Greenbuild 2024. Today, we had the opportunity to provide a short tour of our nearby Slag Grinding plant in Camden, NJ. We would like to thank the passionate sustainability leaders who showed interest. If you are at Greenbuild, visit booth #552 for more information on slag use in concrete. Slag Cement Assoc. Greenbuild International Conference & Expo

Our Sparta Quarry team in our Southeast Region had a fantastic time at the Sparta Pinetree Festival last week. They handed out pumpkins to get in the spirit of the season and participated in the parade. A beautiful fall day made the perfect backdrop to engage with the community and share our exciting plans for the future. Thanks to everyone who participated!

Last weekend, just prior to the official kickoff of the American Concrete Institute Fall Convention in Philadelphia, PA, we took the chance to invite several student groups attending the event for a tour of our nearby Nazareth cement plant. The students had the opportunity to witness the inner workings of the cement plant, experiencing the entire process from the clinker cooler to the top of the preheater tower. This experience is especially valuable for those students who do not have a cement plant in close proximity to their school. A big thank you to our local technical service and sales team for organizing this tour and dedicating your time and expertise to invest in the future of the industry!

Thank you Dr. Oliver Patsch for sharing this update on the recent IEAGHG GHGT-17 conference in Calgary! It is an exciting time to be part of the Edmonton CCUS project!
The Heidelberg Materials team had a packed schedule at the GHGT-17 Conference in Calgary from October 20-24. As the world’s leading CCS conference, GHGT-17 was a fantastic opportunity to learn about the latest industry developments and share updates on our Edmonton CCUS project. Our team delivered six sessions, including project updates, technical sessions, and a plenary presentation by Corwyn Bruce on the final day. During the conference, our Edmonton facility hosted a tour of our two CCS pilot plants. Representatives from Mitsubishi Heavy Industry (MHI) and Shell were onsite to discuss their pilot projects, both actively collecting data to guide our technology and design choices. It's an exciting time for us and a pivotal project. Congratulations to the team!

Heidelberg Materials' Director & Head of the Global Innovation Hub, Dr. Mubarik Chowdhry will deliver the headline keynote tomorrow, November 7, at Decarb Connect Canada. A great opportunity to hear how Heidelberg Materials is scaling their net-zero cement globally and about their Edmonton plant, which plans to capture and store an estimated 1 million tons of CO2 annually.
