This Saturday, November 23 was International Survivor of Suicide Loss Day. The US lost nearly 50,000 persons to suicide last year. Each suicide impacted a large circle of family, friends, coworkers, schoolmates, and neighbors. Persons who have lost a loved one to suicide often get less support because of the complex and confusing issues around suicide that leave others unsure of how to help. Through a federal grant, Hegira Health was proud to produce our “Dear Survivor” videos, honoring the lives of those lost to suicide and providing insight into the thoughts and feelings of the survivors grieving their loss. We are hopeful that our videos will help you to reach out to survivors and offer your support and understanding. We were proud to celebrate the opening of Hegira Health's Child and Family Behavioral Health Urgent Care, located at 33505 Schoolcraft Road in Livonia, this past week. This new service fills a service gap for vulnerable youth ages 6-17 with sub-acute needs that cannot wait for routine behavioral health clinic appointments. Psychiatric evaluation and medication management, individual and family counseling, social service support, and aftercare coordination are available on a walk-in basis, regardless of ability to pay, 8:00 am-8:00 pm, seven days. We are appreciative to all those who joined us to celebrate our opening. Special thank you to Dan West and his team from the Livonia-Westland Chamber of Commerce for hosting our ribbon-cutting ceremony, to Livonia's Mayor Maureen Brosnan for her motivating speech and consistent support of mental health services in our community, and to Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib for speaking to and reinforcing the need for ease of access and increased capacity for mental health services to all.
