This National Apprenticeship Week #NAW i wanted to take the opportunity to share my thoughts on the role apprenticeships can play in career planning and development, especially in #estatesandfacilities Hope you are inspired! #NAW #NHS Simon Corben Mark Chivers Kay Mulcahy CFCMI Fay Lane Lucy Rowe HEFMA HFMA Lynda Rawsthorne BSc MA FRICS FAPM FCIOB ChPP IHEEM (The Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management) Ian Stenton Liam Hogg Mary A. To mark this year’s National Apprenticeship Week, we spoke to our very own Deputy Director of Estates, Fiona Daly MSc, about the value of an apprenticeship in the NHS. What kind of apprenticeship roles are available across estates and facilities? 'There’s such a variety of careers choices. There’s pretty much an apprenticeship to suit everyone! In our national team, we have people undertaking apprenticeships in every area from data analytics and AI to energy management and net zero to healthcare leadership and organisational development.? In the wider NHS, there are opportunities such as engineering, project management, surveying, general and facilities management and leadership apprenticeships.'? Why are E&F apprenticeship roles good for someone’s career? 'They are a brilliant way of getting hands on experience, whilst receiving expert mentorship from people who have extensive experience and expertise in their chosen fields. For school leavers, they can be used to start a career and for people in work they can be a great way to develop knowledge, skills and expertise or to embark on a whole new career journey.? In the technical professions, including engineering, surveying, project management, sustainability, energy and waste management, they can be a great way to start your route to becoming a chartered professional and expert in your field.'? Why are apprentices valuable to the NHS? 'Apprenticeships allow people from all walks of life to develop and grow. They provide opportunities to deepen knowledge in specific subjects and link you up with peers and mentors who can all help to shape your career journey. They allow the NHS to be a progressive and innovative organisation that takes people development to the next level.'? What would you say to someone considering applying for an apprenticeship role with us?? 'Do it! Taking this step can be daunting but honestly, take a breath, click apply and you’ll never look back.' Healthcare will be one of the sectors to pioneer new trailblazer apprenticeships with a reduced minimum duration of eight months, down from 12, as the government also confirms that employers will now be able to decide whether adult learners are required to complete a level 2 English and maths qualification in order to pass their apprenticeship. #NAW2025 https://lnkd.in/est9vBvM

NHS England has published the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025. These updated standards cover all cleaning tasks throughout the healthcare premises, regardless of department. In addition, they also now apply to ambulance Trusts, ensuring the same high-quality cleaning protocols for patient transport vehicles. As well as ensuring effective cleaning processes, the standards aim for transparency in the results. #NHS #EFM https://lnkd.in/espYhWkm

National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day is back. The 2025 celebration day will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, showcasing and recognising the essential work done by all estates and facilities professions in the delivery of health and social care to people across all four nations of the UK.? Participation in E&F Day has grown steadily since its launch four years ago. In 2024, the campaign achieved 633 registrations on its dedicated website from healthcare organisations, commercial partners and social care teams keen to take part. This gave an amazing potential reach of over 294,000 staff across the four nations of the UK. Activities were shared on social media throughout the day, as organisations celebrated the wide knowledge and skills of their E&F teams – from porters to cleaners, reception staff to caterers, project teams to maintenance teams and more – who keep healthcare buildings operational, day-in day-out, and able to provide the very best patient care.? E&F Day is a fantastic occasion to raise awareness of the many rewarding career opportunities that exist within E&F services, including apprenticeships, and help with retention of every valuable member of staff currently working in those services.? To help organisations to plan activities for the day, a download kit is available via the website. Head to the E&F website to register to take part in the day and grab your kit.? #NHS #EFM #EFMDay2025 https://lnkd.in/ece9zKEF
