CRO Succession Challenge: Flashing Red! The average tenure of a global bank CRO is less than five years. 30% are aged 60 or over. These two figures alone suggest that the volume of CRO and risk leadership appointments is likely to remain high. Add in the unprecedented number of significant macro challenges facing financial services institutions – geopolitics, climate/sustainability, technology/AI, demographics, societal polarisation etc. – and it is clear that the demands on the CRO role will continue to outstrip the rate at which the risk function is able to produce new leaders. Big thank you to Anand Verma (Dr.) and Helmut Schuster for hosting a superb AI session with our HR Rewired cohort. We learned a great deal from Anand Verma (Dr.) on what we can expect from AI across all our organisations (large and small). Most importantly - as HR leaders - we need to be absolutely front and centre (and fully noticing) all that AI can give us. We will learn to fall in love with the parts of AI that compliment our unique human skills. More generally, we heard a number of learnings across this risk and opportunity axis. We also enjoyed a truly interactive session with our fantastic group. We will share more in the New Year… In the meantime, thank you again to all, and happy holidays!
