Formidium Co-Founder, Shalin Madan, CAIA, recently shared insights with Chad Bray of FundFire the optimism among emerging hedge fund managers about launching new funds in 2025. Shalin highlighted the unique opportunities available to new fund managers. “Effectively, the reason people are investing in emerging managers is to be able to capitalize on opportunities that might not be available with larger fund managers,” he explained “that requires a little bit of out-of-the-box thinking.” One of the most promising areas? Cryptocurrencies. Shalin sees this as an asset class that remains misunderstood by the broader market—creating potential for outsized returns. “It is an area where you can make a good deal of return,” he noted. “When things are misunderstood, there’s more opportunity for return.” Despite a historically low number of new fund launches in 2024, this year could mark a shift. Institutional investors are showing increased interest in hedge funds, and the right strategies—especially those with a differentiated approach and high return potential—are poised to attract capital.
