Kean’s proposal emphasizes the integration of shared services, “streamlined administrative functions” and the “strategic alignment of academic programs”; it also touts its relative financial strength. Athletic programs would be combined as a “unified entity” under the merger plan. https://lnkd.in/dU_aAjk6 #highereducation #highered #heconsolidation #higheredconsolidation #universitymergers #collegemergers #universityclosures #collegeclosures

Gov. Phil Murphy's office praised the merger in a statement, saying, "The Murphy administration is encouraged by the forward-moving progress at NJCU ... Maintaining access to high-quality post-secondary education for students and the community, who have long benefitted from NJCU’s local presence, forms the basis of our shared commitment to the institution's future." https://lnkd.in/dR-gkUjW #highereducation #highered #heconsolidation #higheredconsolidation #universitymergers #collegemergers #universityclosures #collegeclosures

A cash-strapped college in Jersey City, New Jersey, is poised to merge with a larger state school after persistent budget shortfalls made its future unsustainable. The board of trustees for New Jersey City University voted to approve the pursuit of a merger with Kean University on Wednesday, laying the groundwork for the acquisition. NJCU is a public university located across the Hudson River from New York City that has struggled to address a deteriorating fiscal situation. https://lnkd.in/etqSb7Pm #highereducation #highered #heconsolidation #higheredconsolidation #universitymergers #collegemergers #universityclosures #collegeclosures

The New Jersey City University (NJCU) Board of Trustees voted unanimously (7-0) “to pursue a strategic merger” with Kean University at a special meeting this afternoon. ” … In announcing today the path forward, the Board – in consultation with President Acebo, members of his administration, and the State Monitor – satisfies the Secretary of Higher Education’s benchmark to identify a fiscally sound New Jersey public institution of higher education and begin the process of memorializing the terms and conditions of a potential partnership on or before March 31, 2025,” the board said in a joint statement. https://lnkd.in/edEGJYgp #highereducation #highered #heconsolidation #higheredconsolidation #universitymergers #collegemergers #universityclosures #collegeclosures

The quickest route to a chaotic close is running out of cash. Depending on how liquid an institution is—a combination of how much actual cash it holds with how many assets it has that can quickly be converted to cash—running out of cash can happen suddenly. A constant awareness of liquidity is imperative to avoid such a terrible outcome, and any potential partner will ask how long the cash will last as a preliminary decision criterion. https://lnkd.in/emkQGjaB #highereducation #highered #heconsolidation #higheredconsolidation #universitymergers #collegemergers #universityclosures #collegeclosures

About two-thirds of all degree-granting public and private nonprofit colleges exhibited one of the three key indicators of financial stress: consistently losing money, fewer students enrolled than a decade ago, or a decline in state appropriations or endowment values. https://lnkd.in/ebk3_uFm #highereducation #highered #heconsolidation #higheredconsolidation #universitymergers #collegemergers #universityclosures #collegeclosures

With one of the biggest higher education institutional mergers in the country underway, the now combined UT Health San Antonio and the University of Texas at San Antonio aim to expand degree programs, train and educate more health care workers and become a “premier global university.” The merger will officially launch Sep. 1, a launch date in which the university will “start a narrative about being a world-class, top-tier, top 10 public research university,” Eighmy said. By that date, he says the institution’s new name, logo and branding materials will be finalized. After the merger, the new institution is set to be the third-largest research institution in Texas, following the University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M. https://lnkd.in/eGzKcZPD #highereducation #highered #heconsolidation #higheredconsolidation #universitymergers #collegemergers #universityclosures #collegeclosures
