WBZ | CBS Boston recently covered a pilot study at Hebrew SeniorLife’s Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research using transcranial electrical stimulation to treat both memory loss and depression in Alzheimer’s patients. Led by clinical neuropsychologist Dr. Davide Balos Cappon, the therapy is delivered in patients’ homes. “We are seeing preliminary signs of improvement in depression,” Dr. Cappon told WBZ. “And in parallel, we are seeing also some preliminary evidence of memory symptoms improvement.” The innovative approach addresses a critical need, as traditional antidepressants often don’t work well for older adults with Alzheimer’s. ??? Did you know that your home's temperature could impact your ability to focus? Research from Hebrew SeniorLife’s Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research shows that older adults are best able to maintain attention when their indoor temperature stays between 68 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. But here’s the challenge — the temperature in their homes falls outside this ideal range nearly 20% of the time, even when they have heating and cooling systems in place. What can you do to create a more comfortable environment? ?? Use smart thermostats to monitor and adjust temperatures more easily ?? Dress in layers to stay comfortable without over-relying on heating or cooling ??? Stay hydrated, as dehydration can make it harder for the body to regulate temperature ?? Learn about community support resources and understand policy needs for climate resilience By making small adjustments, older adults can reduce cognitive strain and improve focus.

Recently, HRC-NewBridge patients have been immersed in the world of a capella music! Over the past few months, we have had the pleasure of welcoming the Dartmouth Cords; Yale’s Jewish, Hebrew, and Israeli a capella group “Magevet;” and the Jewish a capella group of Columbia, Barnard, and Jewish Theological Seminary. Each group had its own unique and creative style and approach to its music. Patients speak highly of these amazing performers and their infectious energy. We hope to continue this musical appreciation and welcome more groups throughout this year!
