HFLS is proud to partner with Keshet, the leading nonprofit working for LGBTQ+ equality and inclusion in the Jewish community, to launch the NEW Move to Thrive Loan Program. This program provides interest-free loans of up to $10,000 to LGBTQ+ individuals and families, to support the cost of moving to another state due to the threat that recently-passed anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in their current state of residence poses to their or their family’s safety and well-being. This is a unique initiative for HFLS, as it allows us to lend outside of our usual NYC area. If you or someone you know could benefit from this program, please reach out or help us spread the word! From the bustling pushcarts of the Lower East Side to the supermarkets shaping neighborhoods today, Jewish grocers have played a major role in providing goods and services to their community. And for over a century, Hebrew Free Loan Society has been there to help these entrepreneurs launch or expand their businesses. As this Tablet Magazine article highlights, in 1913 alone, several grocers, butchers, food dealers, and more turned to HFLS for financial help—investing in themselves, their families, and their communities. That legacy continues today. HFLS interest-free Small Business Loans empower New Yorkers to launch and expand their dreams, whether it’s a grocery store, a bakery, or any other venture that keeps New York City thriving. Did you know? Last year, 50+ Jewish free loan organizations across the U.S. distributed $230 million in interest-free loans, helping thousands achieve financial stability or opportunity. A new report, “On the Edge: Voices of Economic Vulnerability in U.S. Jewish Communities,” reveals that 2/3 of American Jews facing financial hardship struggle with situational challenges—like job loss or unexpected crises—rather than generational poverty. ?? The good news? Jewish free loans are already a trusted resource for these types of challenges, offering interest-free loans that provide immediate relief while empowering individuals to build a stronger financial future. Read this op-ed co-authored by HFLS President & CEO Rabbi David Rosenn and three other leaders from Jewish free loans to learn how these uniquely Jewish tools are making an impact. ?? https://bit.ly/2025oped
