According to the Cerulli Report - U.S. High-Net-Worth and Ultra-High-Net-Worth Markets 2024 conducted by Cerulli Associates, Americans are projected to transfer $124 trillion through 2048. The report estimates that Americans will transfer $105 trillion to heirs and $18 trillion to charity. Nearly $100 trillion will be transferred by baby boomers alone, and the oldest boomer turns 78 years old in 2025. Unfortunately, most non-profit organizations are under-resourced in the gift planning area. The sector remains too reliant on bequests and CGAs to solve the gift planning needs of most donors, which rarely address the capacity and needs of higher-capacity, HNW, and UHNW donors. Moreover, many gift officers and nonprofit leaders assume that donors' advisors will properly advance the cause of philanthropy. (I still hear this often.) To try to understand the scale of a $124 trillion transfer, this amount is roughly equal to the GLOBAL domestic product in 2023! Taking advantage of this $124 trillion wealth transfer requires action now. Nonprofit leaders and gift officers must invest in robust gift planning programs, build deeper relationships with higher-capacity, HNW, and UHNW donors, and collaborate with donors’ advisors to integrate philanthropy into wealth transfer conversations. https://lnkd.in/e7vHiCNY #giftplanning #plannedgiving #philanthropy #noncashgifts #legacyplanning

Now that the 2024 Include a Charity AUS Roadshow has concluded, I have a few thoughts. Firstly, I met so many lovely people in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. These fundraisers were eager to learn and execute leading practices in charitable gift planning. Attendees' enthusiasm energized me, truly. Secondly, my thanks to our gracious hosts at multiple events over the past nine days (eleven presentations)! Wallmans Lawyers and Guardian Financial Services Group in Adelaide, Koda Capital and Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation in Melbourne, and HLB Mann Judd and SAP in Sydney. Thirdly, my special thanks to Helen Beeby for guiding me across the beautiful country of Australia. Well done! We covered a lot of ground over an eight-day period, and I have now visited the world's most remote developed city, Perth, Western Australia. In addition, many thanks to Katherine Raskob MIM, GAICD and Rhiannon Mooney for their work and support during last week. Lastly, my trip to Australia was capped off with an amazing dinner hosted by FIA's CEO, Katherine Raskob MIM, GAICD. Included in our dinner was Lawrence Jackson, Heaton Smith's consulting partner in Australia. It was a memorable night of great wine and food, funny stories, and a chance to enjoy the successes of the roadshow. Include a Charity's theme for 2024 was "Be the Spark." I trust that my presentations "Reimagining Planned Giving" and "Donor Motivations to Give" included innovative approaches to donor engagement. My hope is that fundraisers were challenged to engage with donors in new ways to help them leverage their philanthropic dollars to achieve the greatest impact possible. #philanthropy #charitablegiftplanning #plannedgiving #legacy

It's a privilege to teach this week at the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy Madison Institute with my faculty colleagues. They are some of the best charitable gift planners in the field and are representing their institutions, Phoenix Children's Hospital and Cleveland Clinic, well. A hardy thanks to Nicola Lawrence MSc MA PgC CAP? CFRE, Amanda Steyer, and Nelson Wittenmyer. You are inspiring our students to learn what can be complex and technical subject matter. Thank you!

I am excited and honored to serve as the Charitable Gift Planning Track Dean for the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy Madison Institute. Three leading Gift Planning professionals will join me as faculty, Nicola Lawrence MSc PgC CAP? CFRE (Phoenix Children's Hospital) , Nelson Wittenmyer, J.D., and Amanda Steyer, J.D. (the Cleveland Clinic). The track has been rebranded from Planned Giving to Charitable Gift Planning, which the course curriculum reflects, and the differences between the two approaches will be highlighted throughout each section. You may view our track blueprint via the following link. If you are in healthcare philanthropy and want to become more proficient in Charitable Gift Planning, then please consider joining us at the Madison Institute this summer. https://lnkd.in/e5UfpwGB #charitablegiftplanning #giftplanning #healthcarephilanthropy
