Talk to your doctor about your family’s heart history. 1 in 250 people regardless of origin have HCM and 85% don’t know it. Maier Bianchi was fortunate his doctor discovered his heart murmur which led to treatment for undiagnosed HCM. The Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association provides countless resources for patients and medical centers to help improve outcomes for HCM patients around the world.
Before his diagnosis, Maier thought that being unfit was the reason behind many of his physical restrictions. In 2022, Maier was diagnosed with Obstructive HCM. He is currently navigating his post-myectomy journey and is a very active volunteer in the HCM community. Maier is one of our HCMA Ambassadors and a member of HCMA’s Elizabeth T. McNamee Legislative Advocacy Committee, ensuring the cardiovascular health needs of all children and student-athletes are met through legislative initiatives.
