关于我们
Heartland Forward is a nonpartisan, nonprofit "think and do tank. Our mission is to improve economic performance in the center of the United States by advocating for fact-based solutions to foster job creation, knowledge-based and inclusive growth, and improved health outcomes. We are achieving our mission through independent, data-driven research; action-oriented discussion; and impactful policy recommendations. Heartland Forward is unique in that it is exclusively focused on the Heartland region. We think a cross-cutting view is critical to solving the region's challenges. While recognizing the differences between places in the center of the country, we analyze the region holistically to identify common issues and solutions. We believe the Heartland, the core of America, is a storehouse of potential and possibility.

Telehealth and digital connectivity are transforming how we approach health care access, and with 20% of Oklahomans lacking high-speed internet, libraries are stepping up as health and digital literacy hubs. Today, in concert with the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, we expanded our telehealth training module to Oklahoma, holding a press conference to announce the expansion and facilitating our first session! This training module is a free resource for library staff to learn more about guiding local communities through telehealth services. Thank you to our partners with the Public Library Association and to our funders at the Ford Foundation and the James M. Cox Foundation. Together, we can do our part to increase digital literacy and telehealth-related skills for a healthier and more prosperous heartland.

Dean Kim Needy joined Heartland Forward CEO Ross DeVol, Lexicon, Inc. CEO Patrick Schueck and Arkansas Secretary of Commerce Hugh McDonald for the release of a study showing how investment in engineering education could add $3.9 billion and 19,000 jobs to the state economy by 2038. Some key findings: * Even a small increase in the share of engineers and computer scientists in Arkansas’s labor force—from 2.3% to 3.4%—could boost GDP by 1.6 percentage points by 2038.? * Each additional job in this sector would contribute approximately $203,000 to the state's economy. * A 50% increase in graduates and research output would generate an impressive $2.4 billion and 12,000 jobs. * Doubling the number of students graduating from the University of Arkansas College of Engineering would create a $3.9 billion economic impact, which is 15 times greater than the operational costs required to serve the increased number of students. We're grateful to collaborators Heartland Forward and we look forward to sharing more with our many stakeholders in the near future.

It is always inspiring to join with members of our Heartland Health Caucus as we champion health as an economic issue through supporting legislation, programs and thoughtful leadership to highlight how a healthier population will lead to a robust workforce and thriving communities. Last week in Nashville, we brought together cross-functional health leaders and broadband directors to support this vital work. We want to send a huge thank you to our caucus members for bringing innovative solutions to the discussion. We cannot wait for our next convening. Thank you Nashville, TN leaders for hosting the Heartland Forward Health Caucus this week and for the leadership the TN team provided!
While all eyes may be on Washington DC, the work is happening here in the heartland. This week I had the opportunity to join a panel to share the perspectives of our children's hospitals in the work to improve outcomes and access to mental health care. Grateful to Angie Cooper and her "Think AND Do Tank" at Heartland Forward creating the Heartland Health Caucus and convening state leaders to learn from and shape healthcare policy and drive effective implementation. Team Tennessee was well represented with Commissioner Marie Williams, Commissioner Ralph Alvarado, Representative Brock Martin, Gov. Lee Policy Director Michael Hendrix and TN Voices CEO and Chair of the TDMHSAS Policy Council Rikki Harris.
