Dear partners, collaborators, colleagues, and friends,
Unfortunately, due to changes in external funding, we must pause all activities associated with the HEJC, effective immediately.
While this transition presents challenges, it does not diminish the impact we have made together or our deep commitment to environmental sustainability.
Since establishing our Center in 2023, our staff has overseen meaningful work alongside dedicated people representing communities throughout the Heartland region.
Here are a few examples:
?? Helped an organization that serves 10 counties in Kansas secure a Brownfields Jobs Training grant to provide community members with training and job placement.
?? Provided a neighborhood association with resources necessary to evaluate, address, and revitalize vacant lots that pose environmental and safety concerns for residents.
?? Developed a multi-community project for a regional planning association that would create increased recreational opportunities, enhance river health, and encourage investment in infrastructure.
?? Helped a community with a flood-damaged wastewater treatment facility apply for a federal grant to repair the infrastructure and build resilience for future flooding.
?? Secured a start-up grant to reestablish a middle school garden in a distressed urban community while engaging and educating students about gardening and food cultivation.
?? Provided an engineer's assessment and cost estimate to enable a Tribal community to apply for a Community Change Grant.
We are dedicated to the mission behind this work and will keep looking for additional funding opportunities. Meanwhile, we want to express our heartfelt appreciation for the collaboration, commitment, and positive impact we’ve created together through this initiative.
Your partnership has played a crucial role in helping us reach our shared goals, and we’re genuinely thankful for all the amazing work we've accomplished together. ??
Please continue visiting our webpage and reaching out to us at [email protected], which will be managed by the staff at the Wichita State University Environmental Finance Center. We will keep connecting communities with support and resources through the EFC’s technical assistance opportunities and partner network.
