    Stop it! Just stop it! Come on man, really!?! Seriously, how effective can you be pitching your services to someone who literally just accepted your invitation to connect? Can you get any more cringe than believing this is the best approach to gaining new clients? I don’t know you, and I’m absolutely certain you don’t know me. So stop pretending to understand “my issues” and stop positioning yourself like you can “help me.” The truth is you don’t know my issues and you can’t help me because YOU DON’T KNOW A THING ABOUT ME!     Cheap sales tactics are sleazy and don’t work. So why do so many entrepreneurs and business owners use them? I personally believe it’s because they’ve bought into the lie that building business is easy. They were sold pipe dreams about buying into one product or another that promises to secure 100 new leads a day. They fell for the sleazy sales tactic, and to justify their decision they choose to employ the same. Here’s the thing… Building a business is the hardest and most nerve wracking endeavor you will ever embark on. Anyone who tells you different is a bold faced liar, and you should run. You should run far and you should run fast. The truth is there is a right way to build business and a wrong way to build business. If you’re okay with being a flash in the pan, here today, gone tomorrow entrepreneur, then continue being sleazy and lazy. However, if you desire to build a business that can and will stand the test of time, partner with someone who can lead you and guide you to implement the foundations necessary to build it right.     If you don’t have a relationship with me, don’t try to sell me anything. In fact, if you don’t have a relationship with anyone you’re trying to sell to, do yourself and those you’re reaching out to a favor and stop it. Just stop it… Seriously, you pretending to know me is a flat out lie. It’s a bold faced fabrication of the truth and it just feels dirty. I shouldn’t feel the need to take a shower after I accept your invitation to connect. Seriously, it’s an abomination to think you “know me” minutes after I agree to connect. And just because I accept your invitation to connect does not mean I want or even need your services. So please, roll up your sleeves and realize sales takes effort. It takes time.     There’s no room for judgment in sales. There’s no room for criticism in sales. There’s no room for resentment in sales. Dale Carnegie wrote in his book How to Win Friends and Influence People that there’s no room for judgment, criticism, or resentment when the desire to build friendships and relationships exists. The same holds absolutely true for winning in sales. The moment we allow judgment, criticism, and resentment to creep in is the moment we prevent ourselves from truly being open to serving those we’re attempting to serve. What I find interesting is these things creep in often times under our noses and without our acknowledgment. How you ever found yourself thinking a sales call was going to be a waste of time because you just knew the person on the phone wasn’t capable of affording it? What about looking at a potential client and thinking to yourself they wouldn’t be a good fit because they don’t look the part? Or what about finding yourself frustrated on a call because the other person was asking way too many questions? Yup, me too. When left unchecked, these thoughts and emotions can derail even the best of us. How we shift back into emotionally connecting with our audience on the deepest level possible is how we ensure we don’t stay derailed. #entrepreneurship #sales #businessgrowth
