It can feel daunting to create a course, but here are three tips to get started! Tip 1: The course should focus on a specific goal/action Tip 2: Each lesson should be a succinct action with a clear outcome Tip 3: Make sure there are social components baked into the learning! For serious creators and businesses, there's one major problem with social media... You don't own your contacts! Sure, you can run ads to broadly target them or you can try to play the algorithm by giving your followers more of what you think they want, but none of that is as effective as actually having a direct way to reach them. Building an email newsletter alongside your social media following is one of the most effective things you can do to cement your online success in 2024! #socialmedia #algorithms #followers

Summer is notoriously slow in community. That makes it a GREAT time to get ready for fall when everyone will be eager to get started again. Right now, your members are heading out on vacation and stepping away from their devices for some fun in the sun. There are 3 ways you could respond to that. ?? Stress out and spin your wheels fighting the seasonal drop in engagement; ?? Decide “if you can’t beat ’em, you’ll join ’em” – let momentum drop and spend the fall building it back up to where you are now; ?? Take advantage of the slow season to lay the groundwork for an amazing fall launch that will knock members’ socks off and take your community to a new level. If you’re really serious about your community building journey, I recommend the last one. And, I’m happy to announce that I’ve created something to help. Introducing the Summer 2024 Community Foundations Cohort – a live group program to validate, craft, launch, and monetize your online community. From June 10 to August 30, you’ll learn something new each week to help you build a stronger, more vibrant community. We'd love to have you with us on the adventure! ??

I’ve run 100+ online events this year. Here are 4 ways to instantly improve yours ?????? ?? Set expectations lower, exceed with joy. It’s the simple “under-promise, over-deliver” mantra, but in this world of constant (underwhelming) online events, this is an EASY way to get your attendees pleasantly surprised and raving about your events to others. ?? Give vital information upfront. Put yourself in your attendees' shoes and consider what vital information they need to know in advance. This can include providing a clear and detailed agenda that outlines the event's flow, timing, and activities. Visualize the agenda in engaging formats, like Google calendar descriptions, e-card invitations, or even fun loom videos to enhance engagement. ?? Simplicity is key. Keep event descriptions easy to comprehend, especially when catering to diverse cultures and languages. Focus on the core elements of what, why, and how, while minimizing overwhelming details of who, what, when, where, and why. Stop getting lost in your own jargon. ?? Pre-work for success. Integrate pre-work activities that align with the event's objectives. Pre-work can help absorb important points, prepare participants, and ensure a smooth and impactful event experience. Yes, it adds a bit of friction, but it ensures everyone on the call is properly bought in. … That’s it! One of the fastest ways Heartbeat’s top communities have grown is through affiliates. I thought this only worked for established players. I was dead wrong. Communities are regularly hitting 6-figure revenue in under 12 months —?heavily catalyzing their growth through affiliate sales. If you're just starting off with affiliate marketing, know that strategic sourcing is key. Here are 7 places to find the perfect affiliates for your niche ?????? 1?? Start within your existing network. Begin by reaching out to your friends, mastermind buddies, or social media connections. Those who already know and trust you can be valuable allies in promoting your offerings. They’ll give you the grace to make mistakes & fine-tune your communications and offerings. 2???Use industry forums and groups. Join online communities and forums that revolve around your niche. Engage with like-minded individuals who share your passion and can potentially become your affiliates. You’ll quickly find leaders in each community?— reach out to them 1-on-1, jump on a call, and talk them through what you’re building. You’d be surprised how responsive people can be to your ideas. 3?? Tap into affiliate directories. Explore popular affiliate directories and networks that connect businesses with potential affiliates. These platforms serve as a goldmine of talented individuals looking for opportunities. 4?? Attend industry conferences and events. Networking events and conferences related to your niche are treasure troves for finding quality affiliates. Shake hands with potential partners, exchange ideas, and foster valuable connections. Same as before,?start with 1-on-1 conversations and make it feel collaborative rather than sales-y. 5?? Mine social media platforms. Search relevant hashtags, engage in industry-specific discussions, and connect with professionals who align with your brand. 6?? Reach out to influencers and bloggers. Identify influential individuals and bloggers in your industry. Collaborate with them to promote your products or services, tapping into their loyal audience base. 7?? Sign-up for your competitors’ affiliate programs. Chances are, they’re constantly showcasing their top affiliates… who could probably be great affiliates for you, too! Learn who they are and reach out. ... Finding the right affiliates takes time & and you’ll need to cast a wide net. There’s a reason my most viral tweet is about spending 3 months homeless & losing $2M while building my first startup. Vulnerability is incredibly powerful when writing online and one of the fastest, most authentic ways to quickly grow an audience. Here are 4 tips I snagged from Karthik Puvvada (KP), the "build in public" master, during our last convo: ?? Level up your mindset. Vulnerability takes courage, which is like a muscle that strengthens over time. Start by taking small steps outside your comfort zone and gradually open up, witnessing the positive reactions from your audience. ?? It's about connection, not performance. Visualize your audience as a small campfire gathering of close friends, not a vast judgmental crowd. Share from your experiences, offer advice, and be genuinely helpful. It's not about impressing everyone, but making a meaningful impact on those who resonate. ?? Strike the right balance. Avoid oversharing mundane or irrelevant details, as they fail to provide value. Instead, focus on teaching, providing insights, or sharing painful truths that your audience can relate to. Balancing personal updates with valuable content keeps your posts engaging and impactful. ???Consistency is key. Delivering valuable content regularly will nurture your audience's interest and foster genuine engagement. You NEED to do this to reliably grow your digital presence. Big thanks to Karthik Puvvada (KP) for sharing these during his last Heartbeat tutorial ?? … I write about community best practices daily. Want to improve community engagement in 10 min? Tighten up your onboarding with an onboarding video. Here’s how ?????? An onboarding video only needs to cover 3 things: ???say “hey”, and be energetic, welcoming, and authentic ???share what they can expect in the community (events, channels, etc.) ?? core values that are important for them to know at the start Do this while screen sharing your community (Loom & Tella are great!) so they get a sense of the general layout —?home page, newsfeed, major channels, where events happen, where content is stored etc. You don’t have to talk in detail about each of these, but just by seeing you navigate around, members will get a good sense of how to find things. Keep it short, ideally 1-3 minutes. The goal here is to make them feel welcomed & reduce time-to-value as much as possible. If you hit those, you’re golden. If you’re using a tool like Heartbeat, this video can be embedded in the in-app onboarding process. For other platforms, you can just email this to new members on signup. … Big shoutout to Heather Angel for sharing this gem during her last tutorial in Heartbeat's customer community!
