Feeling grateful this Friday morning! This week, two of Heart Math Tutoring's amazing partners supported our program through service projects: In Charlotte, Bank of America volunteers assembled more than 1,100 post-assessments for students, and in Charleston, we teamed up with with the College of Charleston's Center for Civic Engagement to host a pop-up service project where volunteers created 180 take-home math kits for Heart students! Thank you, Bank of America and College of Charleston, for making a difference!

关于我们
Heart Math Tutoring seeks to ensure that all elementary students develop a strong foundation in math and enthusiasm for academics by leveraging the powerful resource of volunteer time. Community members commit one hour per week to deliver an effective, hands-on curriculum in one-on-one tutoring sessions during the school day in Charlotte, Charleston, and Winston-Salem elementary schools. Designed in partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Heart Math Tutoring provides a curriculum that targets conceptual gaps of students. Heart also provides an on-site coordinator to support volunteers, students, and school staff. Volunteers provide one-on-one tutoring twice per week.

HMT’s recent Race to 100 campaign goal was to match 100 additional tutors with students between January 1st and February 18th. With the community's help spreading the word, 131 new volunteers are now tutoring students across the Carolinas! We are excited to see the impact these new tutors will have, and we're so grateful for everyone's help connecting more students with tutors!

This week, Heart team members joined our partners ProvenTutoring and Accelerate in D.C. for their Annual State of High-Dosage Tutoring Convening where we heard from experts in the field on maximizing the impact and scale of effective tutoring. During the Convening, Heart Senior Program Manager Jordan Barnhill Porfilio, alongside John-Paul Smith from NC ED Corps and Andy Craft and Chris Garmon from WS/FCS, had the opportunity to meet with staff from the offices of Rep. Foxx, Rep. Adams, and Sen. Tillis. Together, they advocated for high-impact tutoring in our district, highlighting its importance in light of the latest NAEP results. Heart Math Tutoring is grateful for the chance to engage in these important conversations and champion the power of personalized academic support! #StateofHDT2025
?? Excited to host nearly 200 researchers, tutoring providers, policymakers, & practitioners at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center this week in partnership with ProvenTutoring. The Nation’s Report Card makes clear that bold action grounded in evidence and the collaboration of research, policy, and practice will be required to move the needle on student achievement. And we know that tutoring has tremendous potential for improving student achievement. In a 2024 study of a district tutoring program operating at scale, Matthew A. Kraft and colleagues conclude, “the long-term future of individualized instruction in public education depends critically on the ability of districts to successfully deliver tutoring as part of their regular programming and to sustain the funding and staff necessary to do so.” ?Looking forward to gaining actionable insights on maximizing the impact of high-dosage tutoring from the upcoming practitioner-led #StateofHDT2025.
