The Heart of Biddeford, in partnership with the City of Biddeford, the business community, property owners, and residents, fosters economic development and improves the downtown and quality of life within its boundaries by supporting existing businesses, attracting new businesses, promoting the downtown through events, and working to beautify the urban core. We are a volunteer-driven organization, with a strong board and over 300 volunteers who get involved in our four standing committees, the Adopt-a-Park program, and HOB events. We are staffed by an Executive Director and a part-time Office Manager. Heart of Biddeford works with the City’s various departments and the City Council, the Downtown Development Commission, City Theater, Engine, McArthur Public Library, Public Access TV, and all of the downtown businesses and nonprofits, as well as Biddeford’s wonderful community volunteers.

    This past summer, I had the pleasure of working as a marketing intern for the nonprofit organization, Heart of Biddeford. It was an incredible experience that allowed me to contribute to the community of Biddeford by conducting meaningful projects while learning and growing both personally and professionally in areas of marketing, event promotion and social media analytics. During my internship, I had the opportunity to lead marketing campaigns promoting Heart of Biddeford’s annual events, such as RiverJam and Music in the Park, by creating digital designs through Canva and managing social media channels. I built strong relationships with RiverJam sponsors by visiting their businesses in person and promoting their brands through targeted personalized social media campaigns. Additionally, I worked to enhance the organization’s website by improving SEO and engagement. This involved monitoring and analyzing website traffic, and gaining hands-on experience with the Jetpack website platform. A highlight of the summer was assisting in event planning for Heart of Biddeford’s brand update event and 20th birthday party. I was tasked with finding a creative way to seamlessly unveil the banner which would present Heart of Biddeford’s updated logo.? I also wanted to incorporate another creative element. I came up with the idea to release Monarch butterflies at the same time the banner dropped down. Butterflies are a symbol of growth and adversity which was exactly what Heart of Biddeford was celebrating as they turned 20 that evening!I released the Monarchs in Mechanics Park, where volunteers had recently planted milkweed in the hopes of attracting and preserving the butterflies in the Biddeford area! A huge thank you to Delilah Poupore for her support and guidance in helping coordinate this internship and allowing me to accomplish all of my goals. Your mentorship made this experience truly rewarding!
