We're thrilled for our San Antonio Express-News and San Francisco Chronicle newsrooms for taking home George Polk Awards this year. It's an honor for any newsroom to win a Polk, and to have two local Hearst newsrooms win the same year is incredible. ???? The Polk Awards are given annually by Long Island University to honor the best in international and domestic reporting with an emphasis on investigative and enterprise work that produces a meaningful impact. This year, 15 winners were chosen from 493 submissions. The Express-News won for a series that exposed predatory sales tactics, exorbitant hidden fees and shoddy workmanship in the residential solar energy industry. In Northern California, two reporters who led a joint investigation by SFChronicle and UC Berkeley's Investigative Reporting Program into the whitewashing of police misconduct were singled out for their work. ??
