Empowering communication in Greater Cincinnati
关于我们
Hearing Speech + Deaf Center empowers communication in Greater Cincinnati. Now in our ninety-fifth year, we remain true to our mission to strengthen our community with advocacy and support to individuals and families challenged by obstacles to communication that arise from hearing and speech-language differences. We deliver audiology services, occupational therapy and speech therapy, and D/deaf services at 3 area offices and through outreach and partnerships with community organizations. In 2018, 6,700 individuals received direct (4,100) and indirect (2,600) services from HSDC, with direct services growing 57% over 2017. YTD data suggest the total reach in 2019 will exceed 7,000. About 75% of our patients report incomes at or below the 200% Federal Poverty Level.

Communication is at the core of how we connect, grow, and thrive. The annual HSDC Service Award Gala presented by altafiber raises critical funds to sustain programs available to anyone with (hearing and speech) communication or sensory disorders or deafness. Event proceeds directly benefit programs that remove barriers to communication. Your support can bring communication equity, inclusion, and access to neighbors confronting communication obstacles. Relationships. Education. Work. Every aspect of daily life depends on communication. We need you! Our predecessor, the Cincinnati League for the Hard of Hearing, first met in 1925 to help Cincinnatians communicate. Now, nearly a century later, our efforts continue. In the 1950s, we brought the first audiologist and speech-language pathologist to Cincinnati. Later, we were a driving force in creating the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders at the University of Cincinnati. In the ’70s, our onsite preschool for deaf children contributed to the understanding of deaf children’s play behaviors relative to their hearing peers. Today, we’re serving over 1,500 neighbors each year at our three Greater Cincinnati offices. With your help, we can extend healthcare services and treatments to more neighbors living with low incomes and wealth who confront communication or sensory disorders or deafness. Each year, we honor a champion of communication equity, inclusion, and access. Roy M. Kulick, MD, embodies the HSDC mission and is the 26th HSDC Service Award honoree. Roy is an MBA-trained pediatric emergency medicine physician and a long-time board leader. He is late-deafened and a proud owner of bilateral cochlear implants. His lived experience fires a passion for our mission of empowering communication in Greater Cincinnati. Will you join us as a sponsor of the 2024 HSDC Service Award Gala presented by altafiber and celebrate Roy with us on May 16 at the Bell Event Centre?
