No prior experience in education is required, training is provided at the start of every cohort in addition to monthly training meetings. Mark your calendars! One of our amazing Young Adult Leaders, Bronson is giving a talk about neurodivergence and resiliency. He spent this summer doing a internship with SRQ Strong, a great community partner of Healthy Teens! SRQ Strong is a group of growing Sarasota county residents focused on reducing the stigma and effects of trauma on others. They bring awareness to a tough subject and help lift people up when they need it most. Moving on up! Last week, with the help of Sunshine Movers, Healthy Teens moved to a new, bigger office in downtown Bradenton. ?? Spotlight Alert ?? Cecile Visa, one of our Teen Health Educators living in Sarasota County, is a rising Junior at Out of Door Academy. Cecile has a calm and very approachable demeanor which helps make her a great Teen Health Educator. She is easy to talk to and the youth participants love getting to share stories with her and getting to know her when she comes to sessions. Cecile says "Healthy Teens has allowed me to grow into becoming a young adult activist in my community and has made me feel even more inspired to make a difference by those around me." Cecile has a fantastic attitude and is always willing to jump in and help when she is able. All of us at Healthy Teens cannot wait to see where life takes this incredible young person as she begins her journey of activism and community service. Healthy Teens is thrilled to be the recipient of a $35,000 grant from the Bishop Parker Foundation. Since 2021, Bishop Parker has provided over $100,000 to support youth health programming in Manatee County. A huge thank you to the Bishop Parker Board and staff for their continued support of our mission. Back in May we celebrated the achievements of our Teen Health Educators by hosting the annual Youth Health Awards. The Youth Health Awards is a time for our community to come together and celebrate all of the amazing work by done to empower youth to make positive, healthy decisions. We were thrilled to present local community members and organizations with recognition awards for their generosity and service. Most importantly, we got to celebrate our amazing group of young people for all of their achievements. Our Teen Health Educators work so hard throughout the year to deliver accurate and thoughtful health education to the fellow youth in our community. With thanks to Neal Communities, our presenting sponsor, we were able to provide our graduating seniors with scholarships worth a total of $12,000! What amazing young people we have the pleasure of working with! Amy Kwakye-Amoah, a recently graduated Out-Of-Door Academy student and Teen Health Educator, was featured in an article in the Observer, following her being the recipient of Lakewood Ranch Community Foundation's inaugural Junior Humanitarian of the Year earlier in 2024. Amy does so much for our community and to help make an impact on the people around her.
