Healthy Schools Campaign, an independent not-for-profit organization, is the leading authority on healthy school environments and a voice for people who care about our environment, our children, and education. Our mission is to advocate for policies and practices that allow all students, teachers and staff to learn and work in a healthy school environment. We prepare school stakeholders — students, parents, teachers, school nurses, administrators, community members and others — to become leaders in efforts to create change at the school, district, state and national levels. By working with this diverse group of stakeholders, we advocate for change in the school environment and raise awareness of the ways that the air children breathe, the food they eat and the opportunities they have to be physically active shape their health and learning for a lifetime.

Today our President and CEO, Jennifer Tani joins U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Cindy Marten on a visit to West Middlesex, Pennsylvania, to participate in a roundtable discussion on rural youth mental health. The panel is part of the U.S. Department of Education 2024 Back to School Bus Tour under the theme, “Fighting for Public Education.” This panel will bring together national, state, and local school leaders for a discussion with students, parents, and educators. By fully taking advantage of the school Medicaid program, schools can fund health providers and services already being offered in schools. This is a key opportunity to meet additional student health needs and help address workforce challenges we know many rural school districts are facing.
